You know that movie, Runaway Bride? Well, I've always wanted to do what Julie Roberts does in that movie with the cake toppers..."This one looks like me....and this one has Bob's eyes..." And I have looked in search engines, as well as several wedding sites and I cannot find any (that look like us, that come in separates, etc) I haven't really seen any in any stores that I have been to (South Eastern NC). So, I need help with that, if anyone has any suggestions.
Second, I would like a unique wedding favor. Bubbles aren't cool (once went to wedding where a man about broke his hip due to the massive amount of bubbles/soap on the floor). Neither are bells; I want something that I won't have completely wasted money on (aka, they can use later). I want something that uses my colors (yellow and peach), maybe a daisy thing...but I haven't seen anything that I really like. And I would LOVE to make something...if anybody has any ideas....
:) Thanks!!

My fiance's uncle does glass blown cake tops and customizes them to what the couple needs. You might be able to go to his website and email him with what you are wanting to see if he can do one for you. I do not know how much he charges for the different types of customizing but I'm sure he will tell you that as well. His website is www.mycaketop.com. Yes, he is doing one for us as well. Ours will be customized between several of his designs already.
Ok here are the pictures of the cake top my FH's uncle is going to customize for us. I hope they work as I am not too good at figuring how to post pictures. What I have asked him to do is take the double hearts from the first one and place them behind the bride and groom on the second taking out the two lines that are behind the bride and groom. He will also take the birds out of the center of the two hearts but keep the ones above the bride and groom. When I get the cake top I will have to post a picture to show what it turned out like. The colors for the cake top are going to be dark blue, frost, and a silver trim. We have now added a deep pink color to the wedding so if he hasn't started yet on the cake top I am going to see if he can put some pink in it as well.

I know exactly what you mean cause I would have never thought of a glass wedding cake topper. It wasn't until I was shown the website that I agreed to have his uncle make one. Once I agreed to that then I was told I had to come up with which one I liked. With us doing the double swish hearts I wanted that one and also one with the bride and groom. Thank goodness I was told he could customize the cake topper.

I hope this is not too late. I feel the same way you do about useful favors...what a waste if all the guests do is throw them away later!!
Anyway, I am MAKING mine, so I thought you might be intested. I am buying glass votive candle holders and painting different words on them, such as Love, Family, Joy, etc. (one word on each holder). I will put a candle in each and possibly wrap them in mesh.
This would be a very easy way to incorporate your colors too. You could paint with one color and choose the candle to be the other.
I got the idea after someone gave me a painted votive holder as a gift a few years ago. Her #1 tip is to **** the "design" onto the inside of the holder and use that as the template for the paint.
I hope this helps!

Last year I went to a wedding where the reception was Fiesta themed. The bride and several of her friends had gotten some cheap wine glasses and painted bright colored flowers on them, as well as the bride/groom's names & wedding date. Very useable!!

I also don't want to spend the moeny on favors that will just get thrown away later on. I thought about doing coffee/tea that had a customizable label on the front of each bag. Then I figured that once the guests take them home and use them, they would get thrown away. So I am making my own favors. I got this idea from the wedding solutions store. I am buying plastic magnet picture frames, then I am printing out pictures of the two of us with the top saying:
Thank You for Sharing Our Special Day and the bottom saying our names and wedding date. I thought this would be good, the guests can take them home and put them on their fridge. Hope that helps!
PS-I grew up in SE NC! I am a military brat, that should tell ya where I am from!

Really? I'm livin' in G-Vegas right now; I am going to graduate from ECU next May. And I used to be a military brat as well - except we were stationed in Fayetteville. Anyway, back to wedding stuff! I really like your idea; its personal and keep-able! I saw on some website these daisy magnets (I think it was orientaltrading.com) - I was thinking I could do something with them on the tables and then the guests could take them home. But....I still don't know what that 'something' is yet. Any ideas? :)

I don't know when your wedding is, but something that I am doing for my favors are CD's. That way I can make my own cover, and put my own songs on it, like what songs I used in the ceremony, the bride and grooms frist dance song, and so on. It is fairly inexpensive, and you can use what ever style of music that you like.

We will be having favorite childhood **** as our wedding favors-these are very cheap at the dollar stores. For instance:
slinkies
mini etch-a-sketch
the doodle boards
mini checkers
silly putty
etc
For the kids:
coloring books & crayons
puzzles
playdough (I have even seen recipes for edible playdough)
toy cars etc

I do not know if I would do playdough since the children will be dressed nicely. The parents may not want the playdough all over their child's clothes. For this reason I am also not getting markers.

I will not be having that many kids, maybe 10 or 15. Most of them will be at least 5-7years old, many between 10-12years old. Do I need to do children's favors?

I'm getting those crayola packs of markers and paper where the markers only work on the crayola paper. I think I might do crayons for the littler ones - they seem to manuver with them a little better. I'm going to have a drawing contest for the little ones and have prizes for all of them and then hang the pictures in my house :)

That is a good idea. I got the kids colored pencils and crayons to color with. I am going to make sure there are enough coloring items so they do not fight over them. I am also making each child a coloring book and then putting his/her name on the cover. Then they cannot fight over whose book is whose.

If you have a Party City near you, they have the bride and groom seperates. They are not the same as the ones that Julia used, but they are cute nonetheless. You can choose from ethnicities I think. They have different skin colors and hair colors, but features are not that diverse. I am sure I found them on some of the websites too, I just don't remember which ones. I just googled "cake toppers".
