Hi there,

First post, woo hoo :p

I am recently engaged and was at the bridal store and saw an advertisement for doing your own wedding website. When I visited the site it also included planning software that you could do online. It looked pretty good, and the price was really good considering how much everything else will be costing

Anyway just curious if anyone has tried this program or any others, I'm something of a newbie when it comes to creating a website, and this one atleast looked professional.

Thanks,

Carrie

oh yeah the site was www.webweddingtracker.com (http://www.webweddingtracker.com)

Honestly, I haven't tried it because I think it would be a waste of money that could be better spent. There are websites out there that offer free checklists and advice (I believe this site does and I know that www.theknot.com does). Also, I am sure you could get a planner for a fraction of the cost. I know that $30-70 doesn't sound like much with what you are probably spending but think of it this way... I only spent $99 on favors for 225 guests!!! Plus that amount is gift for a groomsman or bridesmaid or two!

Also, there are sites where you can create your wedding webpage for free. Geocities.com and theknot.com are a couple that I know of...

Don't bother seriously. You CAN DO THIS without the software. Although it is small, save that money!

Best of luck,
Elizabeth

Thanks for your reply Elizabeth. The knot does look like a good alternative. However I guess what is appealing about the other one was you get your own domain name - www.carrieandrob.com as an example. Also, I hate visiting sites that are geocities hosted. I hate all the pop ups and advertising. I do like that the knot is free so I'll sign up an account and I'll try playing around with it. The webweddingtracker (http://www.webweddingtracker.com) has a free trial, so it's worth trying and just seeing how they both compare.

My fiance was showing me domain registration and webhosting pricing, wow. On average it was about $15 to register a domain name and about $10 a month to host(add that all up). So if having your own domain name is important to you I think this is a good deal (plus the planning software looks very useful as well). I don't know, maybe I'm just buying into the sales pitch, but to us it is important to have an advertisement/pop-up free website for our family and friends to come see.

Again, thanks for your reply.

Carrie

Honestly, my FH and I have a wedding website that we created ourselves. He is a web designer and I told him how I wanted it to look. We had the extra web space and so decided to create one. What is the cost of mine? Nothing, except a lot of time and patience. LOL. Here is the link to our wedding website ... it's not all complete yet as we have a few bugs to work out ... http://www.tomandnancy.frandt.com.

You can put together a free wedding website on www.weddingchannel.com . It is really easy, you can scan a pic and then the rest is mostly just fill in the blanks with all of your wedding info. It even has a "guestbook" that vistors can "sign".

I have created one on the knot recently and it was really easy. I have alot of out of town guest that will be comming so I think it will help in the communication with everything. Check it out and let me know what you think. Remember, its not complete yet ...still a work in progress!
You should be able to copy the address below and paste it on the address bar.

I think guests will be happy to have a website and won't be mad at you about popups, etc. I wouldn't worry about that personally. Having your own domain name is nice, but is it worth $100 to you? It isn't to me especially since I will only use it for a year. Plus, they can always email me after that year to keep in touch. I don't think a webpage would be something I would keep up after the wedding (besides posting some photos from the wedding).

Your right about the website probably being under-utilized post wedding, however, as you pointed out it is uselful for posting wedding pictures and perhaps even honeymoon pictures (and I don't mean the naughty ones in the bedroom  )

Of course it is a totally personal thing on what we think is important for our big day. I've received wedding invitations that have been photocopied, yet everything else about the wedding was absolutely beautiful. It's just those invitations compared to the wedding was quite the juxtaposition. Could 'they' have afforded to do more with the invitations, definetly. Did they care about that aspect of their wedding, I guess not.... and neither should I.

I just know for my wedding I'm doing something that none of the other brides who's weddings I've attended have done before. And, I just want to do it as professional as feesible (the website) without hiring a designer, because of course your right, am I going to keep it past the year? Probably not, but I did notice on the webweddingtracker (http://www.webweddingtracker.com) that I can get a copy of my website on CD. Yes, I'll just stick it in the memory box with everything else :o

My FH and I are going to change our website from a wedding site to one that will have pictures of the honeymoon, our first house together, the girls and we will keep it up dated with all of the current events in our lives. I don't know if this really helps you out since my FH is a web designer and so he does all of this himself. We feel since most of his family is out of state then they will be able to see pictures of how we are doing and how big the girls are getting. Anyways, here is a link to our site .... www.tomandnancy.frant.com (http://www.tomandnancy.frandt.com). We really don't feel it is necessary to have a domain with our name strictly so we are going through a free web hosting place.

Joyce,

You are the same one that is spamming the forums with this advertisement. Enough is enough. Please stop.

By the way I went to that site and it is awful. If you want to see a true wedding website please go to www.tomandnancy.stylehosting.com. This is a website my fiance and I created by ourselves and DID NOT need the help of a company.
