I am on a super strict budget and need to keep it very low cost. If anyone has any advice or ideas please email me....I could use all the help I can get. Thanks...
My fiance and I do not have a lot of money at all and we have a 13 month old that takes a lot of our money too, but we have been engaged for a while now and have dated for 5 years and all we want is to get married. My parents can not financially help and it isn't their responsibility so that is why I need your help with suggestions and such. We have already purchased little glass slippers to decorate and my fiance want's the men to wear pin striped zuit suits but they are impossible to fine around her. He wants to go for a guys and dolls them I want cinderella. Also I am having a hard time deciding between Cranberry, Royal Blue, Or Dark Purple for the bridesmaids. I need to cut costs whereever I can. We cut out transportation by having the reception a block from the church and we are going to do the disposable ***era thing for our photos. I am already stressed out so please help I wish I would win the lottery

First of all, I truly believe that a wedding can be accomplished on ANY budget. That said, it doesn't mean it will be easy.

The first things that you need to do are decide on the date, time, location (sounds like you have those), and who you will invite. You need to know this information for all vendors you hire. For you to save money, you should try to have your wedding on ANY DAY BUT SATURDAY!!! Saturdays are always more expensive for every vendor! We are having our wedding on a Sunday and saved just over $5 a person at the hall.. With 200 people that is $1000!!!

It sounds like you have a hall already, but what do they include? Our hall included the rental, bar, centerpieces, cutting of the cake, etc in their price. The centerpieces alone saved us between $500 and 1000 in flowers.

To save money, make everything that you can. Do you know someone that could make your veil? Dresses can be bought off the rack for a fraction of the cost to order one. Your bridesmaids and groomsmen should pay for their own attire unless you are making that your gift to them. Let them know either way. Do you know someone that could make your ringbearer pillow, flower girl basket, bouquets, centerpieces, etc? You can make your own invites and programs... The list goes on. The more things you can make, the more you save.

For food, do you know someone that could bake your cake? Did you reserve a small hall that only charged for the rental (such as VFW or KOC hall)? If so, could your family members do the cooking for the meal? If not and the hall is charging you for food, could you have the time of the reception such that you can just serve appetizers and/or desserts (such as a 8 pm to 2 am reception with dessert only).

Try to really get people you know involved. Perhaps you can trade them... A friend of mine does massages for a living, so she would trade 5 massages for her wedding cake, etc. Do you know someone that does photography or videography for a hobby? A DJ?

Good luck, and I hope that helps!
Elizabeth

[COLOR=MediumTurquoise]Well we do have the reception hall. It is going to be in the VIP lounge in the bar we met. It is an Irish Pub downstairs and the upstairs is the VIP lounge. There is a full service bar, leather couches 2 pool tables and then on the other side there is the tables and dance floor. It is very nice large and would be great for the kids that will be there. It is 50.00/hour but he said he would max us out at 200.00. We are not hiring anyone for transportation because our reception would be a block from the church so we saved there. We have decided to pay upfront for an open bar and once that money is gone then change it to cash bar. There are 8 beers on tap so it should satisfy everyone. We have decided to go VERDI for the champagne toast which ends up costing 1.35/ person. The linens are included in the room rental fee. The meals are 10.95/ person for chicken marsala 12.95/person for shrimp s***pi, and 16.95/person for n.y. strip. I already have my gown. The room is already very nicely decorated so all we really need are the centerpieces...maybe a few balloons....The dj is our personal friend so we are hoping that he will maybe cut the price some because he is the dj at the bar so our reception would have to end at 10:00 if we go with him....My brothers friends does photography and he said he would probably be able to do it, but we were going to have him as an usher. My fiance's sister is very very good with sewing and crafts so I am going to sit down with her and see what she can make or help me make.....I think I am slowly getting there. I don't know what to do about favors though....we bought the little glass slippers but arent sure how to decorate them and if we are going to use them because he wants to go guys and dolls....i need some old fashioned items maybe to kind of go with the speak easy look....

When my friend got married, she had the little glass slippers and fiilled them with a bag of chocolates. Just an idea.

Sounds like you are doing really well so far though!

Two things I know for sure, every penny saved when planning a wedding matters. The second thing is that every detail matters. I was completely impressed at a friends wedding, just a few months ago. The bride was absolutely beautiful, the flower arrangements stunning, and the place setting eloquent. There were no buts or shoulda, woulda, coulda; that I could see. One of the cutest details at her wedding was the chocolate candy bar at each place setting. The couple had their picture on it and an cute and loving message on the backside. It looked like a real candy bar! When thank you cards were to be sent, I expected the usual. But, not this time! The couple sent another candy bar and it had a wrapper with a picture of the couple from their wedding and little details from the ceremony on the back. The wrapper was printed on really nice paper and I most certainly kept it both candy bars! I was so impressed with the wrapper, and the cute look; I searched the company out for my daughter’s birthday. I highly recommend Pride & Joy Studios http://www.prideandjoystudios.com for their wedding favors….any favor, really.

I am not a wedding planner by any stretch of the imagination. I just appreciate detail when I see it. Having been married for 10 years now, I wish you all the ability to savor ever loving moment in fine detail.

Good luck.

I am sure you have already gotten lots of advise. But, here is YET another. With a small child already in the picture, I would be hard pressed to not stay within a strict... minimal budget. Obviously, you and your fiance love one another and are building a family together. What would make sense is to keep the wedding intimate and put the money towards your family needs... or your daughter's savings and one day give her a fairy tale wedding.

But, if you want a super saving cost cutter. hhhhmmm I would say buy what ever you can find on e-bay (I am one for talking here... I don't have time to post my own stuff on e-bay). But, I do find it the best place to find cheap stuff. Second piece of advise would be to don't get caught up on BRAND NEW. Look at some consignment shops or used places. Getting budget items is going to be a JOB, but in the end; your personal satisfaction is what is most important.

I am on a super strict budget and need to keep it very low cost. If anyone has any advice or ideas please email me....I could use all the help I can get. Thanks...

Have you ever herd of Discount Bridal Services? I went through them when I got married and it saved me a ton of money! I am going to become a dealer with them in the next two weeks but if you want I can refer you to someone else if time is a matter. They offer everything at 20-40% off. You have to allow some time for shipping but I was very impressed.
Also when I got married I found that most reception sites charge less for Sundays and they don't require meals being served if you just want to do a cake and punch reception.
Also I found this website www.freshroses.com that you can get the flowers sent to you in bulk and do them your self. If you want I can send you some pictures of my flowers. They sent me a test bunch for 19.99 and then I choose the colors.
Let me know if you have any questions!

I have two websites for you!!!IM on a budget also. So far for mine I have found two FANTASTIC websites. I mean fantastic. everything you need!!! Weel for the most part. So far I have added up to 217. 56 and thats for everything i basicly everything i need. Bubbles- im getting 60 for 12 bucks. for major bulk diffrent prices for diffrent amounts, go to centurynovelty.com. For other items go to orientaltrading.com. I hope that helps. Oh also I have a cute idea for you if you do the cinderella thing. Take tins (they have ones you can decorate on oriental trade, i forget how much for a dozen) put a small amount of mesh in it, and put crushed (not to smitherens, just wear theirs large seperate peices) white rock candy, and whatever other colors that are in your theme, and it will look like jewels and diamonds.

Sounds like you are doing really great, you are not afraid to ask for a discount or a price break which is the first thing you should do. For more great items on sale don't forget http://www.hamptonstore.com/ candles and odd bulk items I purchased 120 votive candles for 8.99 plus shipping thru their site, wholesale pricing no tax id required. Do your own flowers, contact Obiesfloral.com freshroses.com or freshflowersandmore.com I am using a combination for my wedding in November.
Also use what is available in nature, flowering branches or friends gardens or if you have time grow your own.
Good luck to you.

Thanks for all the links! This is really a very helpful website
We'll be doing our own flowers. Will plant some sunflowers one of these days; I'll get most of the vases and holders from the Dollar Tree - where everything is a Dollar! - and we'll use some wheat and other local stuff in the flower arrangements... I'm so looking forward to getting started with that as I don't have any clear ideas on sunflower arrangements yet... But August will be here before I realize it ;)

I'm making my own invitation - already designed them. Will print them later, still looking for the right paper.

Food is future mother-in-laws "baby"... she is full of ideas and so looking forward to it. Lots of friends also offered to help and we'll definitely use their offers. We'll have the reception (dinner and dancing) in a friend's barn/workshop - for free and the church is also minimal cost... Great Pastor!

Well, that's in short how we'll save some money. :D

Hello. I had happened on this site www.fireyourweddingplanner.com by accident. You can sign up for free email which will send you tips once everyday without having to purchase the book for $30 or so. As most readers know, ebay is a cool website to go through. Also, fireyour weddingplanner gives you more ideas to help out. It's basically like, the bride should negotiate for everything and not let anyone take her for granted. I got my dress from ebay @ $20 for something that was like $500, brand new and with tags, so... there are sites and if you look hard enough, you will find some deals! For shoes, you can always go to payless shoes, they have great shoes. If not, you can always borrow something from friends who have been married, like veils and jewelry or something like that.

As for bridesmaids, no one says that they have to be all ONE color. You can have all your bridesmaids in each of those colors. If you are not too particular, and they already have dresses that color, you can save some money for them, by not asking that they purchase dresses that need to be a specific style. For zoot suits, you can probably find some at a costume shop like the Halloween shop, if you are in california. As far as other things... you might want to look at www.craigslist.org I recently got a $400 Beverly Hills hair cut for $20 and it looks just wonderful. I've had tons and tons of complements already! Don't give up. You can do it! Plus, I think that craigslist also gives free massages (students) if you are stressed out. You just need to look! =)

I am on a super strict budget and need to keep it very low cost. If anyone has any advice or ideas please email me....I could use all the help I can get. Thanks...

my fiance and i are on a budget too. the best advice i can give you is to pick up an excellent book called "how to have a big wedding on a small budget, 4th edition" by dianna warner. it's awesome. mentions a bunch of shortcuts and helps with just about everything. :D

I'm budgeting things like the photogher and videographer by using students from one of my local universities. I contacted the univeristy and spoke with the dean of the program if he could recommend a couple of his top students in video and photo and he was glad to assist and give them a chance to make some money. I'm saving big bucks from using the professionals but these guys have excellent porfoilos and use of the latest equipment.

Also, another way I'm saving money by renting silk flower centerpieces for my reception tables. I'm having real flowers for my ceremony but rented silk flower arragements for my reception. The bridal table will be the only table with real flowers. The rented silk flowers will be color coordinated as well, so it will not look a mess. Renting flower is cheaper than the real thing, renting silk flowers can save you big bucks from having to have a lot of real flower arrangements.

Hope these couple of ideas help

I completely understand your situation. I also have a 13 month old and am really struggling with the thought of shelling out all the cash that it takes to accomodate the essentials; let alone the embelishments. My fiance' lives in LA and I live in MO, so it gets a little tough. I have started to put together program ideas and have decided to make my own programs which will save some cash and if I can I will be making my own invitations. There is a company (you may have heard of) called Stampin' Up! I am utilizing their rubber stamps and card stock.. it is really cool.. I know they have a lot of stamps that would go with either side of the themes you and your fiance' want. Also, I am making my own favors for the reception (how they will turn out- I dont know) and I have looked online to find candles and other items for a little cheaper or on sale. Davids Bridal has $99 sales on dresses. There are a lot of ways out there - I would encourage you to google all you think of.

Get your party favors from the dollar tree if their is one in your neighborhood.
I got some really nice favors from the dollar store...you can get balloons from there and everything. like one lady said do not, i repeat! do not get married on saturday. my hubby and I were married on monday. the date had a significance to us but it saved us over a 100bucks by getting married on monday....if people that really love and care about you---will be there for your wedding no matter what day of the week! ok?! check my posting out under princessdlow@yahoo.com--for the conscious bride.

Go to Michael's or JoAnn Fabrics---those stores are your friends!

For a cheap wedding, my advice would be: Don't buy what you can make or borrow. What you do buy, make sure you can reuse.

I would also try paperdirect.com for stationary products; They have pretty good prices and lots of interesting paper and designs.

As for bridesmaid dresses (generally, thay pay for their own stuff, but often are in a similar situation), I'd just pick a color (or theme) and give very general guidelines (black dresses; flapper outfits in shades of reds). They may even be able to rent something from a costume shop (Zoot Suits can usually be found at a costume shop or a larger tux rental shop also... I know Mr. Tux has one).

I saw you have a DJ, but music can also be really easy on your own; We're burning everything to a couple CDs and forgoing special songs during the cake cutting, etc. (it wouldn't be too hard, we're just lazy).

You may also be able to cut costs or get things free by offering to advertise for the companies (a small sign on the cake table, a card in the centerpiece, "special thanks" on the back of the program). You could also have a fundraiser of some sort and call the local news.

You could have a small couple-layer cake and then have a sheet cake with the same design. If possible, provide your own alcohol (or forgo it completely). Your caterer won't be able to serve it, so make sure your bridesmaids, etc. are willing to chat people up a little while they pour. Many liquor stores offer discounts on cases.

Be smart about where you get your dress altered. It doesn't have to be the same place you bought it, and can be quite expensive.

AngelBride

Go through everyone you know and think of people who can offer discounts to you. I have a lady that I set up a website for who owns a lavender farm and flower shop. It was a school project so I did it for free. Years ago she offered to do my wedding flowers for free in return so I am going to take her up on that.

My mom's best friend used to own a catering company and they still have all of their equipment so we are using them to cater, she is not going to work but is going to contact the staff and arrange the work and is donating the equipment at no rental fee...Saves $$$$.

For our favours, we are music freaks so we are making a cd of the wedding songs and I am going to burn them myself and design and print the cover. My best friend made ginger bread cookies and put them in little plastic bags she found at a dollar store for a 100/$1.

As for the location we're having it at his parents farm and renting a tent. This allows us to find our own suppliers for everything, not all halls will allow that.

Our DJ is my future sister in laws ex, so he is donating his time as our gift, we only have to pay a small fee for him to bring his equipment out.

My aunt and uncle made thier own invitations and they look amazing. She bought good card stock and you'd never know she made them at home. You can also make your favour tags, programs and seating charts at home.

Watch for wedding dress sales, especially towards the end of the summer, dress shops are always clearing things out. Another savings for dresses is if you have someone in the family who sews if they are comfortable you could ask them to make them, or even just save on the alteration fees by having someone else do it then the dress shop. Fairweather, JC Penny, The Bay, etc. have really nice bridesmaid dresses that cost much less. Let's face it, we may want the best dresses, but they are only for a day and it may not be your bridesmaids choice so it may never be worn again.

Now that I've babbled on, I hope some of this helps...you just need to use your creativity and it will come to you. :D

We are planning to have a small wedding, and then a large reception. Site will be my mom's yard. Our wedding/reception theme is going to be a luau. BM and groomsmen will be wearing Hawaiian shirts and the female wedding party members will be in dresses to match the guys shirts. AS far as food, it will be mainly a pig roast. We are going to burn CDs for all our music. We have it almost all planned, except for choosing a date! :D

One of the other things that you can do, is to use your local supermarket for a florist. I picked up a brochure from mine, before I picked a location that had the florist included, and it was about 1/3 the cost of a florist. who will know the difference, besides you?

Another thing to think about is the month in which you get married. For instance, June is a very popular month and therefore people will charge a premium price for services. November tends to be one of the least utilized months and many people will discount deeply to get you to use them when they aren't normally booked. I am getting married the Saturday of Thanksgiving and have already had some much less expensive offers from vendors just trying to get something booked for that weekend.

I am also on a really tight budget. I am making alot of things myself. I have bought tons of things from eBay and it was super cheap. They sell just about anything you can think of. There is one eBay Store I use that sells all kinds of wedding things cheap. It is called efavormart. They are honest too. You can make your own invitations. I know some people have trouble with the invitations that fold. You can make scrolls instead if need be. Instead of a caterer, the women of my family are all getting together and making the food then freezing it. I am having a buffet style reception so my grandmother has three friends who are going to warm up the food the day of the wedding and set it all out. All the flowers for my wedding are silk and I am doing them myself. This way I can buy them little by little and then make the arrangements when it gets closer to time. I don't have to worry about them dying either.

Take Care and Congratulations!!

Take Care and Congratulations!!

ahh yeah - efavormart has a lot of my money and I have a TON of their stuff! I absolutely fell in love with that store.

I agree with you, reecey...I love efavormart. I was even telling someone in Michaels about the,. I saw her looking at their ridiculously expensive rose petals and couldn't resist telling her how much cheaper they are at efavormart.

I really hate to say this and I know it sounds kinda bad but I am really lucky. I got into a car accident back in Feb. and broke my back in three places. I had a really long/hard recovery but I am doing good now. My back hurts somedays but that is to be expected. Well the insurance company has been giving us the run around about my settlement, it was the other guys fault (he ran a stop sign), and finally they are going to send me their first offer Friday. This is awsome news with the wedding coming up! Plus my mom had to help me when I got hurt and had to take off of work so she lost all of her sick days and she has to have a surgery that insurance won't pay for. So for my present to my mom I am giving her the $9,000 she needs for her surgery! Whatever is left over I am gonna get a new car, pay for the wedding, get myself out of the $1500 debt I'm in, and then save. I think it should be kind of a substantial amount because of 3 months lost wages, pain and suffering, and travel. Wish me luck ladies, I really need it!

It can be done. I got married 3 years ago on a shoe string budget. I had between 75-100 guests and did it for $5,000. You just have to make as many shot cuts as possible for example I was married in march, The cake I wanted had really pretty red frosting roses. the cake decorator wanted an extra $200.00 for them so we said never mind just make the cake and we will add flowers. The morning of my wedding the azaleas were in blum so we picked those and put them on my cake. To tell you the truth it looked much better than the red roses.

the best way it save yourself money is to do it yourself when it is possible or improvise
