Ok all you ladies out there my FH and I have a question about the groomsmen. He has asked his older brother to be a groomsmen and his brother told him he would as long as his health and finances were ok. The problem we are having is we want the same number of bridesmaids and groomsmen. I am afraid that at the last minute his older brother may not be able to come. My FH's mother suggest that we ask one of his other brothers to be an alternate. I really do not like the idea but my Fh and his mom thinks that his younger brother will completely understand since he knows the older brother's health condition. What would you ladies suggest?

I would definitely ask the younger brother if he is willing to step in if the older brother has a health issue - I'm sure he'd be honored and will completely understand. The other option is to make the younger brother an usher and then if something were to happen, he's already there and in a tux, he can just step up :)

I knew that you would respond reecey. :) I really like your idea about having him be an usher and then step in if needed. My FH read this also and likes the idea as well so that is more than likely what we will do. I just didn't want to have any family fueds over the wedding in regards to who is asked and who isn't. Thanks alot reecey! :)

I agree....there's nothing wrong with having an alternate (I have to do this because all but one of my groomsmen (and one of them is a woman) are military and may very well get deployed so I have been making a list of alternates. Anyone I have asked to be an alternate has so far been very understanding about it and said that they will not have a problem stepping aside if my first choice is available. :) So I say go for it and ask the younger brother.

The other ladies have a great idea. Also, you could have co-best men... If you want to do that.
