Hello every one!
I am making a wedding cake for a friend and I am trying to do it with what I have. I am not a licensed baker or even an expert. I make cakes and everyone seems to enjoy them and like the presentation. My friend told me initially that it would be for 80 people. Not problem, I thought. Now the toll is up to 190!!!
My question is: What do you think of 2 stacked square cakes topped with a round cake on pillars? I think it should be fine, but someone told me it would look stupid? Any suggestions.
Thanks!

Mel

I just want to send some encouragement your way...* your doing this to help her out & using what you have...I see nothing wrong with that @ all...If it wasn't her who said that rude comment to you I wouldn't pay any attention to it...Good luck! :)

I don't think it would look stupid either. Have you talked to your friend about it? If she is okay with what you described then I wouldn't pay any attention to what the other person said. You are doing her a favor and it is really sweet of you to make her cake... I wish someone was doing that for me! I would be happy with whatever someone made me if they are helping me out like you are helping your friend.

It sounds very nice!! I think you are being a great friend, make sure if she's using an establishment, that she can bring in a cake that you baked! :p

I think your cake sounds fine. In fact, when I was looking at cakes I saw a couple that were had different shapes like that, and they were really nice.

I've seen cakes where each tier was a different shape. I'm sure your idea will turn out beautifully.

There are lots that are different shapes. You could look at the gallery at Cake Central for some ideas. Oh and by the way my cake is a square bottom and a round top. I saw a picture of it and it looks fabulous.

Just a thought and something I think I might go with is a chunky sqaure cake with two layers... Then have another simple cake with the same frosting in back for them to cut. The cake displayed does not have to be the one to feed 180 people. It can cost so much less to do it this way through a professional baker too.

I am sure that I have seen cakes done that way in fancy schmancy magazines and on websites. I will see if I can find a link for you so you can support your choice. Whomever said it would look stupid obviously just has no taste or style!

I just now glanced and right away saw two different cakes that use different shapes for each tier and this woman's cakes are BEAUTIFUL.
