Editing Canon in D for length

So I decided I wanted to play canon in D instead of "here comes the bride". But after listening to it more times than I care to admit, I realized that it doesn't really get to the main part of the song until exactly 2 minutes of build up!! So I'm picturing walking down the aisle and thinking, unless I find a location with a REALLY long aisle, this isn't going to work.

So I took it into cool edit pro and trimmed out a few sections so that it gets to the point in exactly one minute. I have to admit I'm quite proud of myself, I'm no professional but the transitions were perfect. Unless you just happen to know what's supposed to come next, you can't tell where it's been cut. But now I'm wondering if it's too short.

So my question: how long should the music be for the entry of the bride? Does it play for a few seconds before the bride starts walking? After she reaches the altar? Does anyone think playing the trimmed version is a bad idea? I can make the version I did available for download in case anyone wants it, if there's not any legal issues with that. With it being such an old song I don't know how that works either. :confused:

I would wait until you find your location before deciding on the length of the song. When you find your location, time how long it takes to walk down the aisle. I think playing the edited version is fine as long as the overall integrity of the song is not affected.

Go for the edited version, if it fits your location. I'm using Bach's Brandenburg Concerto #3, and I'm going to have the DJ start it so that I get the part I like for my walk. I'm not doing any editing...he's just going to start the song where I want it to begin playing.
