My Fiance and I are planning our wedding for Augest 26th 2007, the date that we started going out, the first time.. its a long story.. but anyways, i dont know what to do for a theme, i found a dress i love, but can only find one company that sells it, and it says its a Maggie Storetto, but cant find it on their site... i wanted a midieval theme origionaly but i dont think it will match up with the dress, and i have to find bridesmaid dresses to match as well.... its going to be an outside wedding, and we are trying to find a place to have it so it can be by a lake, at sunset.... we live in Michigan so the waters not hard to find.. but i dont know about what else to do....
Here is THE dress..... http://www.drahoshcreations.com/wedding_gowns/ms/images/Brianne/brianne.html
and the dresses i liked for bridesmaids but i dont think they match well enough
http://www.drahoshcreations.com/bridesmaid_dresses/marysp4/maryssp042/1383M/1383m.html
and i dont think they actually fit my theme ideas, but im open to any theme, as long as its not butterflys, or cinderella, and its something unique.... i didnt even want a white dress, but promised his mother id wear one...

First of all, I think the dresses match well. The bunched fabric in the back of the bridesmaid dresses is a nice complement to the designs in your dress. Plus, I think the bridesmaid dresses should be different from the brides. I wouldn't want their dresses to be a copy of mine.
In fact, my bridesmaid dresses are completely different from mine. I am fine with that. I say that as long as you like the dresses, go for it. I sure people are not going to be thinking about if they match.
Also, for theme ideas.. Since you want to get married by the water and your dress reminds me of a little of a mermaid style dress... How about an "Under the Sea" theme or more realistically in Michigan "Under the Lake"? Even though your dress may not fit the medieval theme, you could still do it. You could have a medieval style veil or other details. He could have a medieval style outfit, etc.
I live in Michigan, and we had my senior prom at Gino's Surf in St. Clair Shores. It was GORGEOUS!!! They have an all glass wall up against the lake with a wooden pier that you can step out onto to look at the lake. Very pretty! I remember the food being good also.
Hope that helps.

I think the dresses would look great together! As for a theme, you don't necessarily have to have a "theme" persay. You could just use milder decorations and have a beautiful wedding/reception :)

Well, she won't be the one wearing it - try them both on and take the one YOU like best. You don't have to wear white - there's no law stating you have to :)

Just remember, the more you compromise what you want, the less & less your wedding will be a reflection of your style & tastes.
But, I LOVE The dresses!! They will compliment one another very well!! :D

Exactly - my sister in law wore a royal blue velvet dress that was just gorgeous! my sister made it for her. It was just beautiful :) Weddings don't have to be white! They are what you want them to be :) If your FMIL doesn't like the dress then its probably a good thing she's not the one that's going to be wearing it! :)

Greetings and well met m'lady. First congratulations on they upcoming nuptuals. As one who does Ren Period weddings myself I wanted to make you feel comfortable with your choices in dresses.
It's your wedding do as you please
If you are doing it at MRF in Holly (mich ren fair) it's dusty and dirty
If you want water, then any one of the local parks / lakes would work for your needs
you may suggest to your guests they come in "garb" (costume, ren outfits) if they have them
If you haven't yet selected a minister yet, I may be able to assist you depending on the date and time. And would love to help you with the vows as well even if I'm not the one doing the wedding itself. If you wish to speak to me about this please feel free to leave me a message on yahoo's msgr and we'll gladly get back to you - I'm generally home after 6 pm should you need our help.
If you wish to take a look at some sample vows we've used in the past feel free to do so at this address: This is the long version (takes about 40 mins)
I also have a more condenced standard wedding version also below this one.
Long Version - Ren Wedding (http://www.angelfire.com/rings/revhansen/vows/sample1LongRenVow.html)
standard version (http://www.angelfire.com/rings/revhansen/vows/index.html)
Looking forward to helping you and your betrothed soon.
Here we go with a bunch of advertising again. Please, do not post on every single board because it gets really annoying to read advertisement after advertisement that is the exact same thing.

In their defense, at least it has to do with the posting, and I think they only posted it once.... If they posted it more than that, then I apologize and you were right.

I agree... weddings don't have to be white or traditional! if you want to wear burgundy then wear burgundy. My wedding dress isn't a wedding dress at all; I'm getting married on the beaches of Maui and I'm wearing a Hawaiian dress and my husband to be is wearing a shirt that matches my dress. My dress is a cute little sun dress that is blue with white & yellow flowers on it (not one bit traditional) and i'm going bare foot. The way I look at it is... it's my wedding and I'm going to wear what I want and if someone doesn't like it; well tough luck for them. Enjoy yourself, get what you want... it's your day! :D

Thank you both, and we answered two questions.. this one, and one with the park. We ment no harm, just offering suggestions, and experience both pos. and neg. for the couples that want to save some money.

sorry if you thought it was, mearly an offer to help her if she needed it. As for offering the vow links, there are very few sources that have "ren style verbage" that are done in a "Basic Fair Accents" for Ministers. But we do thank you for pointing it out to us so no harm done. :)

Renaissance doesn't mean you need to have the billowy sleeves and swords. You could still pull in a renaissance theme with your reception and the decorations at your wedding site. A theme isn't soley brought in with a dress or anyone outfits. Maybe you could have the girls wear flower wreaths with ribbons in their hair ( a very traditional renaissance thing) and carry wildflowers instead of traditional roses. Your recepetion could represent a "feast"...choose place settings that look more medieval. Are you getting the jacket thing to go with your dress? If so, that can bring in renaissance elements as well. Adapt the theme of renaissance, bring in some elements of it. You DONT have to have everything be so stereotypically fit into the theme...take ideas and adapt them to fit what you want...I think you can still make it work if that's what you want! :)
