View Full Version : Where are you going for your honeymoon?
I thought it would be interesting to see where some of you are planning your honeymoon. So ladies where are you going for your honeymoon? What type of activities will you be enjoying? What do you think a couple should spend on a honeymoon? Come on ladies lets here all of the different ideas that each of you have. Oh yeah, how many times have you changed your mind on where you want to go for the honeymoon?
Well, there have been several ideas of where my FH and I want to go for the honeymoon.
1.) He wants to go to California and spend time around the area he grew up in.
2.) We have thought about taking a cruise down to the Mexican Riveria.
3.) When I got my new AAA book they have a vacation deal for a vacation that includes: roundtrip airfare from Phoenix, AZ to Hawaii, 7 night accommodations at a Marriot hotel, a rental car for the 7 days, and all hotel taxes for right around $1100 per person.
Out of the three choices I am leaning towards the Hawaii vacation because I have always wanted to see Hawaii and I think the price is great. The only things we would need money for are souvenirs, gifts, food, drinks, and gas for the rental car.

My fiance and I knew we wanted to go to Hawaii for our honeymoon as soon as we got engaged. We are going to stay on the island of Maui on Kaanapali beach. This beach isn't as busy at Waikiki but is still very beautiful. Our travel agent told us that Maui has the best beaches.
We are looking forward to spending time on the beach, scuba diving, and taking the night volcano cruise. They actually take you on the water by the volcanos and in the pictures you see the red hot glowing lava... It looks really neat! I am sure we'll visit one or two of the other islands too while we are there.
I really want to go horseback riding on the beach too. I think that would be great. Parasailing would be fun too... I don't know... I have tons of ideas!!!
I can't wait!!! :)

I think we're going to go to Drummond Island and stay up there for about a week - its a little island in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan - quiet, beautiful, and my boss has a beautiful cabin there that we can use :)

I think we've settled on NYC. We originally planned on Australia, but it's sooooo far away...not to mention fairly pricey. We also looked at Greece & Hawaii, but both are still pretty pricey. We really, really wanted to go somewhere neither of us had been before, but we were having an issue with the amount of time. If we went to Australia or Greece, we wanted to take 2 weeks (b/c we'd spend 3-4 days just to get there & back), but it didn't look like we'd be able to afford it. Plus, my FH's job is fairly new and he didn't want to upset his employer by asking for 2 weeks off.
If we do go to NYC, we're going to see the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, Ground Zero Memorial, one of the Zoos, and a ton of other stuff. Plus we're going to see Phantom of the Opera on Broadway...something I've wanted to do since I was a kid.

I saw it 10 years ago when I lived in VA. Then just this past Valentines Day, Gene took me to see it at the local theater. It just reminded me of how much I loved it and how I couldn't wait to get to NYC!

Hello,
I have always wanted to go to Bali since I was a little girl. So for your honeymoon we are going to bali for a week and then spending a couple days in Penang and Kaula Lumpur. It is an amazing place to go to if you have the money to do it. my father is giving us the airfair for our gift since he travels so much for work. I have heard nothing but good things from people who have gone ....and once you get over there it is so cheap! I have done a ton of research if you want to email me I can send you details. tondravi@yahoo.com

First my FH and I decided on Chicago, then Milwaukee (he's from that area and I've never been) but then we started talking about New Orleans (my favorite city!!) and now we're thinking we might go to New Orleans for a night or two and then take a cruise that would leave from there and go to Cozumel for a few days!!! I've ALWAYS wanted to go on a cruise and I couldn't possibly be more exicted!!!!! :D

We're going to the Bavarian Alps, to be specific Bad Reichenhall, Germany. We aren't going immediately after our wedding (January 2006) but we are waiting until May 2006 to go to take advantage of better weather.

Yeah, Hawaii is out, decided that it was too crowded and touristy for us.
Germany is a very nice place to visit (I've been there several times and I actually work part time for a medical repatriation company based out of Bochum Germany- my boss was the one who recommended Bad Reichenhall actually) It's a very fascinating place to go, and the language issue is not too bad, as many Germans, especially younger Germans and those working in the travel industry speak at least some English. If you get a phrasebook (I personally recommend the Lonely Planet German Phrasebook, as this is what I carry with me) you can work through most situations you are likely to encounter.
Germany is not a terribly expensive place to visit, when compared to Hawaii or the Mayan Riviera. The money issue is very simple because of the Euro, although at the moment the exchange rate sucks (about $1.45= 1 euro last time I checked). If you like museums, check out Munich; if you like architecture, Berlin is a must see (personally I love the architecture of Berlin more than I did Paris). If you have any other questions, let me know.

Sounds great! I think that I'm going to add this to my places I want to visit list! I have never been able to travel so I have a list of places I would like to see before I die. Since I was a little girl I've always wanted to go to Hawaii I didn't care what Island I just wanted to go so now I am and that's one place that I can cross off my list. :D When I get to go to Germany I think I will go to Berlin; I tend to be more interested in architecture then I am in museums.

If you go to Berlin, you MUST see the Jewish Museum. The architecture is interesting, but the subject matter is something we all should be aware of. Sorry....didn't mean to drag a dark topic into this forum. I just highly recommend seeing that museum.

If we went to Germany.. my FH would spend the entire time in a Porche cruising the autobahn.
boys and their toys.. ya know?
We're thinking about the Bahamas or Jamaica. But Jamaica is SO unsafe if you step outside of the resort area.. and what fun is that? sheesh. I'd love to hear authentic reggae and feel the atmosphere, but I would fear for my life!
We're also considering Key West, my videographer told us about this area in Key West where you can rent a gorgeous two story house for 600 something a week. Comes with a private deck, boat and section of beach. Yowza

Personally the Autobahns are overrated. They are a lot more like our interstates than people seem to think. A lot of places have speed limits (granted they are normally adjustable limits based on local traffic conditions) and you don't want a speeding ticket in Germany. A lot of places on the Autobahns are so congested especially around major cities, that they are more like parking lots than the race tracks so many men seem to think they are.
Been there, done that. Personally if he really wants empty expanses of road with no speed limit- tell him to go to eastern Montana.

i recently got married but i was an active member of weddingsolutions.com so i wanted to get back on here and see what kinds of questions were being tossed around. i would highly suggest that you go to an all-inclusive resort for your honeymoon. my husband and i chose that for ours and we do not regret it at all! it was the best time ever. that covered the cost of flight, hotel, entertainment, and food and drinks! we were basically stress free. we went to cancun, mx and i have to let you know that if you choose that location visit Coba, this is a great active adventure for anyone seeking excitment. we hiked through jungles, zip-lined, repelled into a cave, swam in a holy cave, climbed the tallest point in yucatan penn. which was a mayan ruin and kayaked. it was an incredible day!
best of luck to all of you though!

Where did you stay in Cancun? Thats were we are more than likely going to go because on our first vacation together 5 years ago we went there and just loved it. I have been looking into different places that provide the all inclusive but I did not know if you would like to recomend the place where you stayed?

Jen and I are actually trying to stay away from the "vacation in a can" (one of my friend's favorite descriptions of all-inclusive packages). That's why we are doing the roving tour of Germany (that and it's an excuse to meet up with a lot of our friends over there).
Yeah, sitting on a beach somewhere sipping rum drinks and getting suntanned would be nice (especially if Jen and I didn't bother burn on prolonged exposure to the sun like pieces of bread in a toaster set on "5-High"). But the cultural exposure, the scenery, the historical sites (and home cooked food from our friends) are too much of a lure to pass on. Not to mention we didn't want to do the same honeymoon that everyone else does- somewhere tropical and touristy. All our friends have come back and had the same stories (snorkeling, sunbathing, etc).....We just want something that stands out from the crowd- that's all. To each and to their own I guess (and we're weird....so we're going to Europe ;) )
Well, we still have not decided where to go for the honeymoon. Every time we try to talk about it I decide I want to do something else. The only time I have ever travelled outside of Arizona was when I was a kid. Most of the places I went to seemed to have been close like California and Nevada. There was one time I did get to see the southern part of the US. We went from Arizona to Missouri to South Carolina then down to Florida and back home. Like I said I was a kid though and so deciding what to do for a honeymoon is hard. I have so many things I would like to do on our honeymoon that I wish I could just go around the world. This is not possible so I have to pick only one spot or area. I know several things I do not want to do on my honeymoon are to go to Disneyland, stay inside of Arizona, or go to Nevada. I wish I could make up my mind. At least I have 331 days left before getting married. He can make the arrangements the night before ... right? LMAO.

Not weird at all. If we could afford it, we'd go to Europe too. But it'll be so cold and we just don't have the moolah for it. I'm dying to go to France, Italy and Greece.

We are going to Sandals all-inclusive to Jamaica for 5 days. I think when we spend a lot of money on a wedding we need to go somewhere where everything is included. Fight, hotel, food, etc. Sandals resorts you do not have to worry about gratutiudes it's all included. Sandals have other resorts in the Carribean Islands, etc. Go to sandals.com for more information. Sandals is also known as a couples resort.

I think there are some destination which is very good for us to spend a unique honey moon. a place where there is sun sand sea, there are common but feel the difference. consider a destination like Rep of Maldives where you can find pure crystal clear water the warm sun Turquise lagoon security, private and the peace.

nle5: Don't feel bad. I have more travel brochures than I can stand. We talked about going to at least a dozen places. Hell, just last week, I asked my FH if he wanted to change our location. lol
As for Sandals, I would love to do that, but we are getting married at the height of "hurricane season", and those places got beat pretty bad last year. And since we live on the Gulf Coast of FL, we got it too. I'd rather not tempt fate. And I know that Sandals offers a guarantee for inclement weather, but I'd rather not have my trip ruined and have to try again.

I went to Montego Bay, Jamaica this past summer with my fiance and it was beautiful. I never felt unsafe nor bored with the resort and I would go back in a heartbeat. We also went to Cancun 2 years ago and that was amazing too. I really think the all-inclusives are the way to go, it was so nice not to worry about money for an entire week. We are having trouble deciding on where to go becuase it has always been his dream to go to Tahiti or Figi, but that will end up costing more than the wedding  , so thats most likely out. When we first got engaged we planned on going to Italy, then we started seeing how expensive our wedding was going to be and changed our mind.
Now we are planning to go to Ochos Rios Jamaica. I am looking into the all inclusive packages I am torn between Couple, Sandals, and Hedonism III.
I really want to go on the Caterman cruise, the glass bottom tour, snorkling, horseback riding and see Dunn's river falls..

We were going to go to an all-inclusive resort in Cozumel (our friends did and loved it), but that dang Hurricane Emily hit the day before we were supposed to leave... so we spent the entire time we were traveling trying to get the company to tell us what we were supposed to do... they couldn't even confirm whether or not the resort was still open!
We ended up going to Vegas, which was pretty cool, but I wish I'd been able to plan for it and bring the right clothes and learn about the shows and stuff instead of spending half my honeymoon buying overpriced clothes and trying to figure out what we wanted to do with the other half.
Originally, we were going to take a cruise of the British Isles (I'm Scottish, he's Irish), but by the time we found one that looked good, all the cheaper spots were taken :( . We're going to try to do a second honeymoon (or third, if we can't get our money back from Occidental and have to go to Cozumel or lose it), and I'm happy because I found the *perfect* cruise... it's the week of our anniversary too!

Shon and I are planning to go to Tanzania and climb Mt. Kilimanjaro, go on safari, and spend some time in Zanzibar. We also talked about doing a week of volunteer work somewhere out there, but we have to research the possibilities and see how much time we can get off work.
We are having a small, very casual wedding, so right now we are focused on saving money for the trip! :)

kyzmit - sorry to hear about your troubles! Sounds like you rebounded well, though.
Shon and I are planning to go to Tanzania and climb Mt. Kilimanjaro, go on safari, and spend some time in Zanzibar. We also talked about doing a week of volunteer work somewhere out there, but we have to research the possibilities and see how much time we can get off work.

Thank you... since things tend to go horribly wrong with us, we were kinda expecting something to happy with the honeymoon, so... we weren't completely devestated by it and figured we had to have a good time somewhere... This is our only vacation of the year, can't waste it being miserable... or in Rochester.
Your plans sound great; what an amazing trip that will be!

My FH and I are going to Puerto Rico. I always wanted to go there since that is where my family is from. We rented a condo on the beach in San Juan, PR. To rent it for one week is only $630. That is cheap. It has one bedroom in it so it's perfect. We figured we would eat breakfast and sometime lunch at the condo and then go out to eat every night. We are going to rent a car to ride around the island. I love it since Puerto Rico has both the beach and Mountains. I can't wait!!!!

We are renting a cabin up in Boundary Waters, Minn. It's clear up north by Canada. I went there last year for a canoe trip with my family and fell in love with the area. It's out in the middle of now where so no one can bother us! It's a long drive though from central Iowa but we'll drive to Minneappolis first and visit the mega mall, spend the night and drive the rest of the way the next day. It's perfect for us because I love the outdoors and he loves to fish but doesn't really like camping. The cabin is a secluded one with a private dock and a beautiful view from the deck we are told.

I think we're going to go to Drummond Island and stay up there for about a week - its a little island in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan - quiet, beautiful, and my boss has a beautiful cabin there that we can use :)
I live in the UP-I would suggest it to anyone!!
We decided to go to Maine for our honeymoon. We're staying at a beautiful B&B on the shore of the Atlantic. We're going to spend all week exploring the surrounding area and he has arranged a day of sailing in a 25-footer.

Everyones honeymoons sound wonderful, I hope you all have a great time!!
Hey! My fiance just sent me this link on Tahiti. We have been looking at St. Lucia and Jamacia for our honeymoon and now he wants to got to Tahiti
. It is beautiful there!!! Check this website out!!!

We are postponing our "real" honeymoon until both of us can take a couple months off to travel. But since our wedding is in Maui, we will have a mini vacation after the wedding to relax.

We are planning on honeymooning in the French Polynesia. We are going to spend 2 nights in Papeete, Tahiti, 3 nights in a beach bungalow in Moorea and 4 nights in an over water bungalow in Bora Bora.
These are the over water bungalows at Bora Bora Pearl Beach Resort:

This is the view from a beach bungalow:

The over water bungalows have a glass coffee table that opens so you can watch and even feed the fish.
The beach bungalows have a private indoor/outdoor bathroom, I love the idea of bathing/showering in my own little garden!

Where are you staying in Bora Bora? You will have to tell me all about it like what to do/not to do after you go!

Sean and I talked long and hard about the honeymoon. He really wanted Hawaii and really wanted France, Italy, of Hungary. We weighed the pros and cons including what there was to do, language (he is very fluent in Spanish while I in French and passable in Italian), currency exchange, travel time, and our mental state after just hosting a wedding for 250+ people the day before. We decided that it would waste too much time to travel to Hawaii. With Europe, there is so much to see and do that there isn't time for real relaxation. So, we finally dedcided on the Sandals all inclusive in the Bahamas. It is gorgeous. We don't have to worry about money. We can just rest and relax with drinks in our hands on the beach. We can swim in our private pool. We can can enjoy amazing food and all types of fun activities. All of this while just resting and spending quiet time together after the wedding.
For our 1 year annivesary we are still planning on Europe. I want to do the more traditional vacation there but Sean has a neat idea to visit the towns and regions that our families come from. So that would be England and Ireland for him, and Italy and Hungary for me. We have a very long time to work that out though.

We are planning to go to Playa Del Carmen in Mexico. We have heard rave reviews from the all inclusive resorts there. Has anyone had any experience there? Thanks for the advice!

Ok all of your honeymoon's sound so cool. Well we are going to the Poconos in PA. I live in Fl and have not traveled to that part of the state so it will be interesting. If you guys haven't heard of the Poconos it's the place with the oversized champagne bubble bath thingie. I'm so excited. Since we are marrying in Nov. it's going to be hella cold but that won't matter if you know what I mean :D . There is also a swimming pool and spa inside the suite! How cool is that. We will more than likely be doing the snow activities so it should be fun....
