Hi everyone,
This is whats going on I had spoken and interviewed a few different DJ's and I was happy with a couple but I chose the one with more references. For the past 2 weeks we have been going back and forth via email and they asked for a deposit (half of the cost) I am fine with that but I told them I wanted a hard copy of the contract first and I will send the deposit or do it over the phone. The person I spoke with kept pushing for the deposit and I said "I'm sorry but we need the contract first so that way there are no misunderstandings" so she said fine and hung up. I received a contract today but its dated for the wrong year so I called them and they told me not to worry about it. So going with my gut instincts (I had a bad feeling) I told her I wanted a contract with the correct date; needless to say she got mad and kept pushing the deposit thing saying over and over again that they needed the deposit. So before we hung up I told her I would mail the deposit and then she said when she receives the deposit she will mail the contract. I got upset and told her I would call back and that I felt really uncomfortable sending the money with no contract. So she got mad and hung up on me. So me and my FH decided to go with the other company for our DJ services and I sent an email to the owner of the company I had a problem with explaining that I would not be using them and why. I got a phone call back from the same lady I have been dealing with saying that I will not receive my deposit back and so on and so forth. I said fine and hung up. Little did she know I havent sent the deposit and have no intentions on doing so. I am meeting with the other DJ again tomorrow. Am I wrong for changing DJ's? There is plenty of time between now and my wedding date so I know they will re book the date. Let me know what you think.

Of course you are NOT wrong! Even if everything was on the up and up, I would not deal with a company with such poor customer service. If they were that impatient with you this early on, imagine how they would be once they got your money!

I honestly don't think your wrong...I would have done the same thing...but I have a recorder on my phone <~~(those gadgets are really nice) and I would have used it if needed! I don't play when it comes to my money and neither should you...You done what most brides would have forgotten about! Really they couldn't have messed up on the dates for income tax purposes... you did good! Otherwise they will get a call from the IRS!

Besides, sounds like they were more concerned with getting money than doing a good job... I would've changed DJs too.

I don't think you were wrong at all - however - I would talk to the actual DJ about it. It could be that the person taking the booking for them had already told them that they had the contract sent out and SHE screwed up and was trying to cover her mistakes without the actual vendor knowing. I think you're right for switching, but I also think that you should inform the vendor as to why. Besides, if you didn't have a signed contract with the place, even if you did send a deposit - you will get it back - all you have to do is file a small claims suit - or just stop payment on the check if you had sent it. Its so much better to do everything with credit cards. That way you have a little more recourse. I understand that not all vendors take credit cards though.

No way did you do the wrong thing! I'm glad you made the choice you did. Always go with your gut. Good luck with the new DJ. I'm sure that you will be much, much happier knowing you'll have fewer problems!

It is your wedding you have ever right to get what you want & deserve. Besides being happy on that is the most important thing. If they were only after the money then how do you know that they would have done what you wanted. ;)

If anyone did to me what they did to you, I would have told them, thanks, but no thanks. You are the one thats giving them the business. Customer is always right. They had no business being so rude to you.
