Hi,

I think if making your invitations will make you happy then do it! I've seen a lot of the invitations available and honestly, homeamde invitations can have a lot more style.

Anyway...for anyone who is trying to save money and is not too great with a computer, let me quickly give you a tip on how to create a cute invitation on your computer. Depending on what style you choose you may have to take this to CopyMax and have them print it, but if you can fit four on a page the cost is not even 20 cents each.

Okay, in Word, open up a blank page.
Hit enter a couple of times
Click "insert" from the top menu-bar and scroll down to "text box." You'll see a message on your screen that says create image here. Just hit your delete key once.

Your mouse pointer will now be a cross and you'll see when you press and hold the right side of your mouse that a box appears that you can move and shape. Make this the size that your invitation will be.

Now click "format" on your menu bar and scoll down to "format text box".
Under the Colors and Lines tab you'll see a "fill" header with a box next to hit. Hit the scroll down arrow to reveal the options. Go to "more colors" and pick a background color. If you want the color lighter or darker, just click on the custom tab and move the arrow up or down to change the color. Click Ok.

Now, you're back to the main Colors and Lines tabs. Click the box again for color, but this time choose "fill effects" at the bottom. Then go to pattern. You'll see a bunch of pretty and cool patterns for the back ground.
What you're doing here is really just creating a border since you'll had a solid box for the text of the invitation over this design.

Play around with the two colors to change the pattern designs. When you have one you like, click okay.

You can also add cute lines, or no lines to your text box.

When you're done with that box, go to "insert" and choose "text box" again. Insert a smaller text box over the patterned one, being sure to center it on all four sides. Again, choose any color and border you want.

Then add your text in this second box.

You can also add mini-hearts or ribbons by going to Insert and then Picture and then Auto-Shapes and then choose Basic Shapes and Choose the Heart and just reshape it. You can change the color, text and shadow.

Hope this helps.

You can see samples of the text box images at (these are not in invtiation form, just graphics, but it gives you an idea of how the solid box over a patterned background with a pretty font can look.) :)

Good Luck!

This is great! I've been curious as to how everyone has done their invitations. I know some people can get a software program, that's a step by step application. Thanks for bringing this back up!

Here are the ones I created. The white spots are where our names are. I don't want to post them on here completely.

The wording will be a little different too. Our colors are silver and a dark red so thats why we have those colors.

I like your invites Han. I might steal the idea of wrapping the actual invitation in something. hmmm...
