Has anyone seen or has/is doing this. My parents have recently told me that they are going to pay for most of our wedding. What I would like to do as a huge thank you is half way through our reception I would like to dedicate a song to them, which will be their wedding song. I am a little hesitant in doing this because of my Fiance's parents, they are currently separated/divorced, but on the flip side, no financial assistance is coming from them. Any thoughts??

I would talk to your fiance about this - if there won't be any hurt feelings about it, I would do it - traditionally in my family, we always had the "parents dance" right after the father/daughter groom/mother dance. I don't think we'll be doing this since my fiance doesn't have a father in his life other than mine and my real mother is just now very recently split from her husband and is really not doing well with it. I have thought, however to have my father dance with his mother - we're not accepting any financial assistance from anyone for the wedding so its not a matter of that, just a matter of tradition and wanting to honor my parents - especially my father who is the world to me. Anyway - I'm rambling - I'm good at that too. haha - I guess what I'm saying is, I would talk to the groom-to-be and have him feel out what kind of emotional situation his parents are in and go from there.

I think thats a great idea. I am in the same situation as you are, my parents are paying for everything and his parents are divoriced and not contributing financially to our wedding. I love that idea because my parents are happily married and I would like to show them how much i appreciate all they have done for not only me but my fiance too. But I am pretty sure his parents would not mind and I know he would think it was a great idea too. Thanks for the idea

I am also planning on playing the song my parents had their first dance to. My Matron of Honor's anniversary is two days before my wedding date (I met my FH 2 days after I was the MOH in her wedding). And another close friend's anniversary is the day before. I plan on playing both their songs and having mini versions of their wedding cakes made for them. I am afraid my wedding is taking away from any plans they would have to celebrate their wedding anniversaries, so I want them to know I appreciate them.

That is a very nice gesture!!! I'm sure they will love it!

I'm in the same boat as you, my parents are still married and my fiance's paretns are divorced, and his father has also passed away, but his stepfather will be at the wedding.
I'm surprising my parents with the song that they danced to at their wedding 32 years ago, as a way of saying thanks for everything they've done, and the great example they've set for me. (Their song is The Air That I Breathe, or at least i think that's the name of it)
As for my fiance's mom and stepdad, I'm going to ask my future sister in law if they would like to have a dance at the wedding, and what song they might like, because i'd kind of like to keep it a surprise for them too.
