View Full Version : Is daughter too old to be flower girl
Hello everyone. I have two daughters, one is going to be 14 this year ( 15 for my wedding) and the other will be 10 for my wedding. The 10 yr old is dying to be the flower girl? I have looked for flower girl dresses for her but only find them for younger girls. Does this mean she is too old? My sister tells me she is, but I don't want to hurt her feelings, because she really wants to be a part of the wedding party. She is a big 10 yr old too. Well let me know. The 14 yr old by the way that will be 15 will be a jr. bridesmaid. (Here I had to talk her out of being a maid of honor, she got over that)

i dont think shes necessarily too old to be a flower girl, if thats what you want. but if shes big for being 10 and you dont think it would work, than i think she could be a jr bridesmaid like the 15 year old. do you plan on having a ringbearer? is there anyone else who could be a flowergirl? maybe you could get another flowergirl and have your daughter be her "escort". i dont know-just some ideas. good luck!!

If she would really like to be a flower girl, she should be. Stores that sell communion dresses will have larger dresses for a girl her age, and they are the same as flower girl dresses.
Otherwise, I would suggest making them both Jr. Bridesmaids, they can still throw petals

My daughter will be 11 and 7 when I get married for the second time. My oldest will be a junior bridesmaid while the youngest will be the flower girl. I do not think that your 10 year old will be too old to be a flower girl for your wedding if that is what she is wanting. You might be able to find a dress in her size by looking at some of the junior bridesmaid dresses or the communion dresses. Remember it's your wedding and you can have your girls be whatever suits you. Have fun with the wedding planning and let your girls help out.
Good luck!!

i would say make her a junior bridesmaid, the 15 year old can either be a junior bridesmaid as well or a normal bridesmaid. i was only 15 when i was bridesmaid for sis
Thanks everyone. I like that rose petal idea being thrown by the jr bridesmaids. ( That is what was suggested right???) I'll start looking for dresses right after Easter, probably. :)
Yes, Ellie by the looks of the post that is what was suggested. I think it would be an interesting turn of events to have the jr. bridesmaids walking together dropping the petals.
Good luck shopping for dresses!

She can also be a flowergirl. My flowergirl is 9. I think that is even better because at one wedding I recently went to, the flowergirl was only 4 or 5 and refused to walk down the aisle. She started crying instead. I think older is better. I didn't have any trouble finding a dress for my flowergirl. Try Mary's Bridal dresses or some junior bridesmaid dresses could work too. www.marysbridal.com
Good luck!

My flower girl is my neice and she's 10. I am having my junior bridesmaid neice 12, daughter 15 and another daughter 21... my girl firend as maid of honor... But the usher are all men (FH's friends, in their 40's) so am having the men all up front with him already and the girls walk in on their own. There will not be any bridal dances either. except for us and the parents. Which is fine with the girls. they are happy about that :p good luck, that's a perfect time with find a nice dress for her.

Most etiquette experts I read say that about 7 or 8 year old is the uppermost for a flower girl. However I think this can reasonably be stretched. Depending on the girl 10 could be an older flower girl or a younger Jr. Bridesmaid.

You and I have very similar situations, sort of, I think! :) My fiance will have his cousin as his best man. Possibly my sister's hubby will be an usher? ( But that would put him with my daughter- I don't think that will look right. ) I will have my sister as MOH , daughter (15 yr old) as jr. Bridesmaid and daughter (10 yrs old) as flower girl. So I guess the best way to do it is to have the men already at the altar. I was going to have a ring bearer but don't have a close relative to fill those shoes. Fiance has a nephew but he lives far, and I'm not sure the family can attend. So I guess it will go better if ladies ***e in alone and last you think? This wedding thing is a riot! LOL :D

I think it is perfectly fine to have her as a flower girl. A friend of mine isn't having any kids at her wedding yet wants flowers dropped, so she is having her sister and her FH's sister as junior bridesmaids and flower girls...They will be walking down with baskets of flowers and dropping the rose petals. I say it's entirely up to you though...if she has her heart set on it let her do it. As far as dresses go, it is a good idea to look at dresses right after easter. There are always nice things out for the holiday and they might be on sale.
