View Full Version : Wedding songs
I was recently going through and making a list of songs that I wanted to have played at the wedding and reception. I was wondering what some of you would be doing when it came time to sit the mother's of the bride and groom. An idea I had was to have the two mothers be seated to their favorite song. My mother's favorite sond is Alabama's Angels Among Us and I haven't been able to find out what the groom's mother's favorite song is but I am working on getting that information. I will be playing country love songs while the guests are arriving so I felt this would be appropriate. As the mothers are being seated they will also go up and light the unity candle that represents either the bride or groom depending on which mother is being seated at the time. Do you guys think this is a good idea or is it tacky?

I think its a great idea - it sounds like it really represents who you and your FH are. I like the old saying that variety is the spice of life - and this idea varies from the traditional instrumental music that is usually played during seating, etc - so it sounds great to me!
I look at it this way - all families have holiday traditions that have something in common but I can bet that your family does something every year that is different than what my family does - its all about making your own traditions. Why not apply that to this family event- a wedding? :)
I think that if every wedding is the same, there's nothing to distinctly remember - and you want people to remember your wedding individually from all other weddings, don't you? I have been to so many weddings, and only a handful stand out - because there was just some flare about them that made them different. They had all the required pieces to make it a wedding, but some had that extra "oompf" that made it very very memorable and special.
That is one of the reasons I have been putting so much planning into the wedding even though I have not gotten a lot of things for it yet. I will be getting the wedding dress in January along with some of the decorations. I have been getting every thing when it goes on sale. My FH is going to try and find a dj at the bridal show we are attending in January. I told him that since he does some with music then he will be in charge of finding the dj and anything that we will need for the entertainment. I am making a list of the songs that we want played for both the wedding and reception so that the dj knows what to play. We will have a special song for each of the special events like the mothers being seated, a song before the wedding vows, one before the unity candle ceremony, for the cake cutting, the toast, throwing of the bouquet and garter, first dance, father - daughter dance, mother - son dance, etc. Then I also plan on having some background music playing while the guests are being seated, while having dinner, and dance music during the reception. Maybe sometime I will post some of the songs that we have picked out thus far.
I just hope that everything will go well as I get nervous when I start planning more information for the wedding. Good thing I have over a year still.

The only suggestion i have is that, you pick short songs or "cuts" from songs. You don't want a 2-5 minute interval between people sitting. :)
I was going to have the mothers also go and light their respective parties unity candle before they were seated. I am just throwing some ideas around in my head about this while I am trying to prepare the ceremony.

hi. I am trying to find a song for my mother that I want to sing to her about me and my mother going through anf letting her know that i will still be her daughter as always and it time to let me grow and be free .. to let her know tha ti love her dearly. I need help to pick a song of Mother and Daughter... :) undefined
If you could tell us more about what your mom is like we might be able to help you a little bit better. What kind of music does your mom listen too? What are some of her favorite songs? Who are some of her favorite singers? With this information I could probably find a song for you. It would be terrible for me to suggest a song that is country if she doesn't like country.

There are quite a few songs out there but it would really be helpful if we knew what style of singing you're looking for - are you looking for a fun song or a sentimental song? Faster or slower song? There's a whole lot out there :)
