Hi all...
we're getting married in May 2006. Right now I am having 3 of my nieces as flower girls (not junior BM's) but am stuck on a ring bearer. I have a nephew, and he may just be old enuf, the problem is his father (my brother) isnt talking to anyone in our family, and we don't see this changing anytime soon.
Would it be weird to not have a ring bearer, but to have 3 young ladies walk down the aisle with pomanders, then the 3rd one on her pomander have the rings tied to it? that way when we do the rings, she can carry up the pomander and we can each untie it.
I do have 2 friends, ea BM's that have sons that could fill in, but neither of them know anyone in my family but me.
What is everyone's opinion?
Thanks!!

I think this is a great idea, I especially like the part about you and the groom untieing the rings. And, I saw your post to Mara, and said you were worried that traditionalists might not take to the idea well....Its your wedding so you do what makes you happy!!! Good Luck in your decision and congrats on your upcoming wedding.

I too am planning a May 2006 wedding. However, I do not agree with all the wedding traditions that most engage in. I will not be having a flower girl or ring bear. This is your day and your fiances day -- have it the way you want and if it is different then that is your way of personalizing your event.
Good luck :)
I think this would be a lovely idea. You don't have to have a ring bearer for your wedding if you do not want one. In fact, a lot of people will have the ring bearer walk with fake rings on the pillow anyways and the bestman and/or MOH hold the rings until the appropriate time in the wedding. Some opt to have the bestman carry both rings in a box in the inside pocket of his jacket or if the vest has a pocket put it in there. That way the rings do not get lost. Even with the pomander idea, I would definately make sure the rings are tied really good on the ribbons so they don't fall off. Other than that maybe put fake rings on the ribbons and have the bestman hold the rings.

This may sound silly but, the ribbon used to tie the rings always has one of two problems, either its too silky and a knot won't stay in it, or its not silky enough and you can't get the knot untied when you need the ring. So what we did was take 2 of the rubber coated paperclips and straightened them out and formed them into hearts that twisted at the top and put the rings on those. The bride and groom had to untwist the hearts and pull the rings off the "paperclip" - this was MUCH easier and looked really cute. You could not tell they were paperclips at all.

I too am getting married in May of 2006 and am not having a ring bearer. My FH and I have thrown around the idea of having one of our friends be in charge of the rings. She will be 22 at the time and will be one of his attendents (wearing black and white dress). We know we can trust her with the rings and she will also be in charge of helping out our flower girl who will be turning 5 a week after our wedding.
Just our crazy little idea.
