My fiancee's best man which happens to be his brother told my fiancee that he is unsure if he will be able to make itto our Feb. 2005 wedding. His brother agreed months ago to be the best man. However, now is is stating that he is unsure because he just recently moved to Arizona where his girlfriend will be having their baby anyday now. He is saying that he may be unable to afford the plane tickets to Florida, he also said that he may be there. My question is how long should my fiancee wait until finding a new best man. Our wedding is in 3 MONTHS!! :(

Trust me when a new kid comes along it takes money, money & more money! If he's dropping clues like this I would take a "safe approach" and ask someone else just in case. He might not want to hurt the both of you and he probably doesn't realize that leaving you two hanging like this just doesn't help matters! 3 months is not long away, and 3 months of stress worrying is just unnecessary! He can't expect you both to wait and see if he can afford it.
Definitely ask someone else just in case who would understand that if he can in fact make it to the wedding that he should be the best man...This is really a tough situation, and I would recommend getting to the bottom of it as soon as possible with as little upset as possible!
I really hope I helped & good luck

I had the same problem... TWICE!!! Just be safe and pick a new best man. If it turns out that he can make it and there is time, he can be a groomsman, usher, or do a reading... Up to you...

Instead of totally excluding the brother, why don't you have your fiance ask his next groomsman in line to step up and take the place of best man, should his brother not be able to make it? Give the brother the opporutnity to make the ceremony - it sounds like he really wants to. I'm sure if the situation is explained to the other groomsman, he'll be more than happy to help out.
