Punta Cana or Puerto Plata...please Help!!

My husband and I would like to go on our honeymoon and we have in mind Punta Cana or Puerto Plata but we don’t' know where we want to go. We want something nice as we haven't been anywhere’s. Can anyone recommend a good hotel/resort to stay in... in Punta Cana or Puerto Plata. We want to be near the beach and have activities to do.
