I am sure that your bridesmaids are well aware of your financial situation, so they won't have unreasonable expectations of lavish gifts.
The traditional gift for bridesmaids is to give them jewelry that they wear to the wedding. Some of the "budget" brides have suggested that you can get nice jewelry and reasonable prices at Walmart.
If that is beyond your budget, why not make themed gift baskets. A spa theme would be nice. You can probably put together something real nice getting stuff from Cost Plus World Market, Bed Bath & Beyond or Linens N Things.

You can get glasses really cheap at WalMart... 4 for 1.92. Then go to crafts and pick out some rub on transfers... they have flowers and stuff. And then get a paint pen either at Walmart or hobby lobby or michaels. Put the transfer on the front and write their name on the back and there you have a cost effective personalized gift. :) I made 17 for less than $25.

To be honest with you my friends happiness was all the gift I needed... I love the ideas listed but however maybe a poem (depending on how close you are to your maids) describing how them sharing this day with you goes far beyond the duty of a friend: "no gift or words could compare to the true friendship we share"... if a gift is nessary include a hankie <~~ they will cry!
** please look for poems depending on friendship, they are all over the web!
Hope I helped!

You'd be surprised how many attendants do not expect or even care if they receive a gift at all. I'm sure all your attendants understand your financial situation. Have you considered writing or finding a really nice friendship poem for each of them and framing them in a really nice frame? It's pretty cheap, but still pretty sentimental.
