Rent a dress?

I'm trying to do a wedding a stick to my budget-- this is the second time for both of us and we are doing a small intimate wedding with a big reception. I don't want to spend a lot of money for a dress I'll never wear again and someone mentioned that you can rent a wedding dress. Has anyone ever heard of this? :confused:

If you can rent a tux, then I'm sure you can rent a dress. It's just probably not as easy to find a place. If you live in a small town, try looking in the closest big city, or try looking online. Most stores and companies own their own websites. They must rent dresses, I remember on an old episode of Friends, when a pregnant Pheobe rented a dress from a place called "It's Not Too Late" :p. I actually rented a dress the first time I got married. I am glad I have bought one for my second (and final!) wedding. But if you think that renting is a good way to go then go for it - you only wear it once unless you want to hand it down later to your daughter or whatever.

Renting is a good way to go, but please realize you will pay about $150 and up to rent a wedding dress. Plus a deposit.

Another option is to have a dress made. I suggest having a tastful 2 piece suit with an additional overskirt. The suit could be later dyed to a favorite color, and the overskirt will give the illusion of a bridal gown, without the price!! I also suggest you have the suit made from a polished cotton, this has the look of satin without the hefty price.

Any seamstress worth her bobbin can make this easily. For a very nice price, I would guess for $80 or less. This will give you a wedding gown AND a business suit. A 2-fer.. my fav.
