For people lighting a unity candle, what song are you going to have playing? I have someone that is going to sing a song while we light the candle, but I am having a hard time figuring out what song I should have him sing.

I wasnt going to do any music.

As we light our candle I have a thing that our officiant is going to read about what lighting the unity candle simbolizes.....

Now I am worried I need music. We have a harp player playing our ceremony music, maybe I will ask her what other ceremonies have done.

I didn't get many replies on this ..
I wouldn't worry bout what you are doing, I have heard alot people do that too. We are just having someone sing, and I cannot figure out what to have him sing. It is going to drive me nuts. He wants to know a song and I hadn't even started thinking about that yet, and now it is all I hear about so I need to figure one out..

Heather, we are having a unity candle lighting ceremony and will be having this song performed by our soloist as we do so "Grow Old With Me" by Mary Chapin Carpenter. It is soooo very pretty, yet short and sweet. I thought it was perfect.

Here is a link to it .... http://www.barb-coolwaters.com/a001/growold.html

We have a soloist that will be singing during that time. We are not sure what we will have her sing yet, but we have it narrowed down to a few.

One of the songs we like is When you say nothing at all by allison krause

Hi! We were originally going to use "The Wedding Song" (There is Love), but we've now decided to have a friend of ours and his daughter sing "The Prayer" (Andrea Bocelli). She sings beautifully and their duet will be very special for us as well as the two of them.

I have sung and played violin at numerous weddings. Popular unity candle songs include:

The Prayer (mentioned earlier)
The Lord's Prayer
The Gift of Love
Ave Maria
In This Very Room
How Beautiful
Blest be the Tie that Binds

These range from very traditional to much more contemporary sounding depending on your taste and your singer's vocal range and training.

I think I'm going to have my Dad and a friend sing the Prayer for me with my mom accompanying on piano (at least that's what my mom says they're going to do :-)

(FYI, some of these can be done on instruments if you don't have a singer, but check with your musicians first).
