Female Ushers?

I have one sister, my fiance has 2 and three brothers. Together our wedding party is 3 girls 3 boys, WONDERFUL.

The problem? How can we include our friends who feel left out? What does an usher do persay, and can afemale be one? Also.. what is the title of the person that watches the gift table and has people sign the book?

I am having hostesses to go with my ushers. I figure that one of them will be in charge of the guest book at the church and the other the decorations. (They will need a women's touch after the men hang them. :p heheh) They will hand out the programs, keep the guests moving to seats, and find out bride or groom (if we do that) for the usher. We have two sets because we may have two enterences. Then they will help grab in decorations after the ceremony and make sure that no one leaves anything... oh yeah... and help give directions. That's what my hostesses will be doing. :)
