OK guys Here is my biggest problem yet. I'm having about 100 people at my wedding. Its going to be an out door tent wedding. Everything has been going great in my plans to not spend more then 1500 or so. The only problem now is a DJ. Ive emailed a couple people and they are all like 650 dollars for 4 hours. That seems really crazy and expensive! We thought about just doing our own music with the computer, but then we dont have a master of ceremonies to announce things. We are not having a bridal party other then my parents and our 3 dogs and there really isn't anyone who we could ask to be in charge of the music. Is this price sound reasonable to you guys or not? Does anyone have any ideas as to what we could do? The ceremony and reception will be all in the tent

That is typical if not cheap from what I have seen. We are planning on having music played from the computer also. Why don't you have one of your parents be the master of ceremonies. There really isn't a whole lot that they need to do. If you get them over with in the begining of the reception, they will be able to enjoy it like everyone else.

Depending on the area you live in, this is inexpensive. You could hire a high school or college student as a DJ for a fraction of the cost of a professional. The MC can be any one you choose. It doesn't have to be a DJ. Appoint a relative or a friend to do it.

Thanks. I guess then We are going to have to figure something out with the computer cause I aint spending that kind of money. I could see if it was for even 5 or 6 hours but 4 hours just to say 5 words lol. Liz what type of program are you using on your computer to do it?

We are probably going to burn them to cds and play it through a cd system. Robert's stepdad has some really nice stereo equipment. If I were to just use the computer I would probably use windows media player. You could have the songs in a certain order or have them on random. You could set up playlists for the special events during the reception, so they are easy to find.

You don't have any outgoing friends that would be willing? YOu might want to look into any local colleges to see if there are any students that do djing on the side to see if they would be willing.

Not really.. Im the most outgoing, and with work and everything I dont see many of my friends very often so were not sure if they are going to be invited as we are thinking to keep it small under a 100 my family only (fh doesnt deal with his as things that have happened and dont talk to them so their not invited)

We have hired a juke box as we are able to set it to play randomly all day and then set it so people can select their favourite tunes in the evening. Much better value for money than a dj and more fun for guests. Can't find anything on my google page (keeps finding UK sites) but there must be companies out there. Ours is costing us £350 ($665) all inclusive.Hope that helps

If you use this site, you can search your area for more djs to see if you can find anything cheaper.

Thanks for the links Liz. The jukebox thing sounds cool but just as expensive as a dj :-(
My FH is thinking that we could get a cheap keraoke machine with a wireless mic or something and he could control everything and we could speak and run the show without having to be running around. Thoughts?

Here is a thought to the dj situation. What about not having a DJ at all? What about a large cd player hooked up to your speakers and having a friend change the cd's for the day. If you have surround sound speakers on your TV borrow them, and maybe a realtives if they have them, for the day and place them in varous areas around the reception area this will produce quality sound for FREE. hope this helps.

Thanks for the idea denise. Thats what we are trying to do. The only problem is we dont really have anyone that we could ask to be in charge of it and stuff. What we were thinking is getting a wireless mic and FH running the show lol

um that might work, but it might take away from your special time together.

I agree with denise, I think getting a collage kid or high school kid would be your best option, if you can't ask someone in your family.

Instead of having a bunch of cds I would recommend finding something that will play mp3 cds. You can put around 150 songs on a cd. That's like 7 hours of music. That way you don't have to change the cds constantly. I would create 2 cds one with the music for all the special stuff and one to put on for everyone to dance to.

Well that would be the point of the wireless mic. that way we could do it together and interact with the guests ourselves. If we use our stero system we could burn everything onto just one or 2 cds and have them all q'd up.
Im just not sure...I still would like to get a dj :-/

Like others said, try going to the local college and see if there is anyone there that would be willing to help you for cheap.

For this one, you have to contact them through their craiglist thing. Just click on the blue that looks like an e-mail at the top of the ad: http://maine.craigslist.org/evs/227631413.html

The place I rented my tent and stuff from had a lot of audio equipment you could rent too. If you know someone with a lot of cds, you could ask them to do it for you. I got lucky and found a dj for super cheap. ($300 for however long I want him!!)
