So it is a little under a year till we get married!! YAY! But I just went to a weddng a few weeks ago and the DJ was horrible. They played baby got back, thong song, big booty *****es and a few other totally like wrong wrong songs for a wedding. No one danced and it was really uncomfortable and boring. So now I am freaking out and paranoid that we wont have good songs. We like everything from country, rock, jazz you name it. If anyone has any good ideas for receptions songs please help! We already have the special dance songs we just need other filler stuff. Thanks!!

Hopefully you will have a DJ who will know how to entertain the crowd without playing inappropriate songs. Our DJ has done weddings for 20 years and requested that we trust him enough to do his job. However, most DJs will also have you sign a contract that includes the music you want and the music you can not tolerate. I would definitely put these types of songs down. I went to a wedding a few weeks ago. The DJ was very good. He played a wide range that included 50/60s rock and roll, swing, jazz, some modern songs of today and a nice mix of slow songs. Of course, a group song is inevitable, but usually appreciated by most. If the Chicken Dance, YMCA, or Hokey Pokey make you cringe, write down a few group song selections as well. I am going with something like "Shout" and the "Twist". Overall, I bet you will be very happy with your DJ as long as he knows what you want, what you don't want, and you trust him.

At my mom's wedding last summer they had a band that played everything from country to classic rock to swing.. most of it was older stuff that I didn't know but it was great music and everyone danced and had a great time. Personally I would stay away from hip hop and such especially if a lot of family from your parents generation is there. I find it ruins any atmosphere of good fun and makes older people uncomfortable. But from the stuff you said you like it sounds like you've got a pretty good idea of what people like to dance too! Lol, my favorite stuff to dance to is actually stuff like Great Big Sea, but theyre a Newfundland folk band so theyve got a really Irish/Scottish sort of sound and not many people outside of Atlantic Canada have even heard of them, but they are super fun! I find upbeat songs with a really good beat are the best to dance to so most country works really well. If you want more ideas ask your parents or your FH parents, I bet they know some good dancing classics from when they were younger, and it would make them feel more at home on the dance floor if you occasionally played something they know and used to dance to when they were younger! Hope this helps! Wow I ramble a lot :D
