I know there are sometimes surprize performances by fathers and friends and whatnot, but has anyone ever heard of one done by the bride herself?

It's typically considered a bad idea; I've worked hundreds of weddings and the prevailing thought seems to be that since it's already your day, you shouldn't take over the stage as well--your guests should have the opportunity to please you with their talents. I could be wrong, but usually it's treated with the same regard as the groom's mother wearing white (like my MIL plans to).

I'm sorry, I'm really new to this, but what regard is that? I mean, I've heard the MIL is white was supposed to be insulting, but I'm not sure why other than only the bride is supposed to wear white? I don't really have any family and no close friends, I'm planning everything my self. What are guests supposed to do?

The bride is suppose to be the center of attention. Supposedly, any one in white will distract from the bride. Also, it is thought that it will bring bad luck to the newly weds.

Ah, that makes sense, thank you. So, how does that apply to a bride singing at the reception?
