Hi! I just joined and will be getting married in May 2007. I am needing some assistance in choosing colors. My husband-to-be is black and am uncertain if he should wear the traditional black tuxedo or if a white one would be better suited?
Also, I would like to incorporate butterflies into the equation as far as the candles and decorations go. I think that a butterfly represents change and the morphisis into something new, such as one heart becoming two.
I know that my gown will be white, but other than that.... I have no clue! I'm not even sure how to pick colors. I was thinking of my Bride's maid dresses being a solid color and then another color to tie it all together. I envision a colored brides maid's dress with a blue sash. I'm not so sure I know what else looks good with white and blue and can be butterflish.
Any suggestions would be welcome!
Thanks!
Missie

Hey,
Congrats on your upcoming wedding!!! I was told if the man is dark skinned then white goes realllly well. Which do you prefer, a white tux or a black one? How about your FH's preference? I love butterflies and that's cute you want to incorporate them into the wedding. I think there was an older thread about using butterflies, not sure though. If you wanted to you could do butterfly colors, like purples, and blues to go with the white. Sorry if I'm not much help.

Hey,
Here's a thread that I thought might be the most useful to you. Hope it helps!

Dark skin and white tux's are nice but not necessary. Black men look just as stunning in black, cream, or most colors....I think I hate white tuxs

I agree, I'm not big on white tux's--who wants to spend all day worrying about him getting dirty too? A good friend of mine has very dark black skin and looks stunning in black. Why not try different colors on to see how he looks? You could also look at dark gray, depending on his skin tone.
As far as your colors, pick your MOH and bridesmaids and have them help you find a color palate that suits them as well. Pink & brown, silver, and black are all very popular right now!

I think he would still look great in a black tux, but I am not really a fan of white tuxs either. I agree with taking him and having him try on different ones though to see what you like best.
I am using blue and purple with some silver and then the white. Those colors go really well together.
Also here is an idea for your wedding cake with butterflies, these are pretty expensive but I figure maybe you can find them cheaper on e-bay..

Thanks guys! You're so awesome!!! I would rather not have Nigel wear a white tuxedo. I thought I was supposed to be the focal point (grin)... wearing all white. I'm just kidding. I think a nice black would be wonderful - and traditional. Perhaps a white or white and black striped vest underneath his jacket. The ideas and possibilities are endless.
You all have been a great help and now I have a direction in which to go. I'm not sure if it will end up being the theme or not, but it's an idea that I have dreamt about.
If your future husband tells you that it's "your wedding, you pick out what you want"... should I still attempt to keep him involved... or ... I'm not exactly sure what I am supposed to do.
Thanks!

Hey,
I'd still keep him involved. My FH is the same way. He's always telling me "do whatever you want, it's your wedding." But, it's OUR wedding so I tell him "honey I decided on these colors, and this is what I want my flowers to look like, and this is how much this will cost, and what do you want to wear?" Etc. It makes him happy b/c he gets excited as I do about things for the wedding.
