My church only does wedings at 2pm on Saterdays and my reception isn't sceduled to start till 5:30pm. because of the arangment I made with the reception site manager. The ceremony will last about an hour, then there will be a recieving line. I don't know how to handle this situation. Is it unreasonable to have 2 hours of dead time for my guests? Changing the ceremony location is not an option. What do I do about the lag time for all 200 of my guests? :(

For my wedding, my ceremony is at 3pm and my reception doesn't start until 6pm. So, the wedding will go on for an hour and then, after the hour ceremony, we will be taking pictures for about 30 minutes or more (usually the guests hang around so they could take pictures, too) After that, it will be around 5:30-5:45pm. The guests would be arriving at the reception for cocktail hour (there's something you can try to do before the actual reception starts..talk to your site manager). During the cocktail hour, they can have drinks and hors'deouvres and mingle. Hope this helps!

Two hours is too much lag time for your guests! Did you just find out about the 2:00 rule at your church? Since good advance planning is out of the question, I suggest that you delay the start of your ceremony until 2:30, have extra readings or soloists, and stretch it until 3:45. Maybe you could hand out lemonade or some little treats as folks leave the church, extending the reception line a bit, but still caring for your guests. What is the distance between the church and the reception. How much time will traveling take? I can't see your guests getting to the reception site much later than 4:30, and having them stand around for an hour is very poor guest treatment. Tell you reception manager that guests will begin to arrive around 4:30, and what does s/he suggest that they do for an hour? You are paying for his services, so get what you need for your money. Good luck!
