Is anyone else having trouble with their dress decision? I went to David's Bridal with my mom and MOH a few weeks ago, tried on about a dozen dresses, and put a clearance Oleg Cassini on layaway (it was $550 from $850). I was in love with the dress, but then started having doubts because it's big and heavy and satin, and we're getting married in 95 degree heat on the beach in Costa Rica. So I went to a dress expo and found an ivory (deep ivory--almost buttery) Emme dress, with off-the shoulder sleeves; the bodice and sleeves are beaded lace with an empire waist and the rest of the dress is very light, with chiffon, and a short train. It makes more sense for the beach, but I don't love it as much as the other one. I don't know why I bought it, I think i was feeling desperate or something.
Any words of advice? There are no pics of either dress on the web; I was even thinking about using the lighter one for the ceremony and then the other one for the reception, but that means 2 dresses on an airplane. My mom and friends are ready to give up on me, my fiance thinks I'm nuts. I really just want to feel amazing on my wedding day. Does anyone know if David's Bridal will let me switch my layaway for another dress?
Carolyn, who may get married in her underwear if this keeps up!

I didn't know david's bridal had layaway. If the dress is heavy you bst believe it will be hot under there.

I an also having a beach style wedding. At first I wanted a flowing dress that would make sense for the beach, but I fell in love with one that had beading all over and was a little heavier. I bought that one and thats the one that I will wear. I figured that anything will look great on my wedding day...whatever I feel comfortable in! You may think the lighter one is better, but if you love the other one better, I would say go with that one! Its your day and you need to feel special and beautiful!

You're not insane, I have already bought a dress myself and I'm looking at two more that I like much more. FH is paying for it and loves both so he isn't any help! haha :D

Thanks for making me not feel like a lunatic! I tried on the dress again at David's yesterday, they were very nice and indulged me as I tried on 6 more, too! I decided to keep the first one, the heavier one. I'll be posting a "for sale" for th other one after I take some photos!
There was one other dress that I tried on at DB that I liked a bit better than the first one that I picked, but the style wasn't meant for my body. The first one really looked the best on me. I guess I just want to be certain not to have any regrets!

Oh please child, we all have tried on like thousands of dresses it seems. I went to one store I was sweating I was trying on so many dresses and walked out no closer to finding one then before. Then I went to Davids and tried on oh, about 50 dresses and luckily found the dress of my dreams. The whole fun of getting engaged is finding that IT dress!!! :) Glad you found it. Can't wait to see pics.

Thanks! I was talking to my mom and she reminded me of her horror story. She went to pick up her custom dress 2 days before the wedding (her dream dress), and sewing machine that they used to alter it (she was so nervous she went from a 24" to a 21" waist just before the wedding--don't I wish!) left a huge oil spot down the back and train. Her uncle got her money back and took her to another shop, which altered it and delivered to the church an hour before the wedding! I guess even perfect planning can't account for everything.
My fiance keeps reminding me that the dress is only a thing to wear, and if I keep it up, he'll wear one of them to the wedding! (Yikes!!!)

hahaha, oh my god I would have died if I was your mother. I am just about dying myself. I have my dress, which I love. I tried it on last night just to be the princess that I am in it. ;) I walked out, and before it fit perfectly, it was tight where it needed to be, loose where it needed to be. NOW, which I am not complaining let me finish. :) Now, I can pretty much shimmy it off without unzipping it. WHich is wonderful because i am loosing weight, but the dress really isn't meant to be taken in (Davids Bridal told me that) So i am really worried how we are going to take it in. My FH told me. well you just gotta chunk out before the wedding. haha. LOVE HIM. :) Don't worry, everyone has horror dress stories. As long as you feel beautiful and are comfortable relax. Tell your FH that he can wear a dress down the aisle, he would look pretty. :)

Thanks for making me laugh! And congrats on your weight loss, I'm certain that David's Bridal can find a way to exchange sizes--they told me that they would do it for me if I lost enough weight before the wedding to make it fall off!
If he wears the dress, should I make him shave his legs?

Well of course. No one wants a hairy bride. ;) Its always good to find humor in stressful situations. :)

:) No hippe tree huggers here. Vermont is crawling with those. I went to a whicket ceremony where they practice witch craft. They are lesbians and one women was previously a man. It was such an odd experince...

That would be really weird. We have tons of tree huggers and hippies around here. Santa Cruz (which is about 45 minutes away from where I live) seems to be a breeding ground for them. That or they just all go to the college out there.

I ws only kidding about making him wear the dress...and I always shave my legs! He does too, as he's a competitive cyclist. We met when he fixed a flat on my bike for me. And then I beat him back to the end of the trail! Turns out he let me win so he could ask me out...
There was a wedding last year in Florida for 2 dogs that cost more than we're spending for ours, if weirdos are the name of the game!

---Dress too big??? Double up on underwear!! No, I'm not joking!!! Put an extra bustier on, it will make a load of difference. But beware, get a seamless one, then you'll look great and feel even better. ;)

Double-sided **** can help keep things in place, too!
