Hi everyone.
I have a ballgown type style of dress with a built-in crinoline. The problem is that I want the dress to be very full but I don't know which petticoat/crinoline I should choose.
Here is an example of the kind of poofiness I want for my dress:

Should I get this petticoat with tulle:

Or should I get this petticoat with the hoops:

I am nervous about the hoops flying over me and whether it'll be comfortable or not, you know sitting and stuff. And I am nervous about the tulle being extra hot. I am stuck. Please give me your opinions and advice and which one you think is better.
Thanks!

To get the look that you want I suggest going with the hoops. While they will be uncomfortable to sit in, I do not think that they will go over your head. You may want to look around a bit for another crinoline. They do not make them as stiff as they used to be, there may be one out there that will move with you but not take away the desired shape you are looking for in your gown. The tulle may be hot, but it will definetly rub against your skin and may irritate it unless you wear a full length slip underneath. Also, the tulle may flatten throughout the day as you move around, sit up, sit down, dance, etc. What you really should look for is petticoat netting. This is stronger and stiffer than tulle but will hold the shape nicely. Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

Wow! I don't have any advice....I just wanted to say good luck trying to use the bathroom in something like that! :p
Are you going to wear the petticoat all evening, or just for the ceremony?

I think the first one is going to be more comfortable. That is quite the dress!!! Wow, I don't think I could handle that poofiness

givenkbcfc,
Thank you for your reply.
I was looking at what you said about the netting. I went to find out more about it and learned that I made a mistake.
The petticoat that I said was made out of tulle is not, It is actually made out of netting. Here is the description:
A 7-layer petticoat with a drawstring waist that fits sizes 4-20. Taffeta inside lining, thousands of inches of netting in the middle, and our famous scratchless cover on the outside.
So do you think I should go with it?
I also forgot to say that I hate the way hoops feel. I wouldn't want my FH to feel them when he is beside me and I wouldn't want anyone to see the awkwardness in my face trying to sit right, LOL!

sept07bride,
I am going to try to wear it the whole night, including the ceremony and reception! I said "try".
It's just that I am so in love with poofy dresses.

LOL! Yes, that's what so many of my friends have told me. What can I say? I guess I really do want to feel and look like a princess on my big day!

The netting sounds way more comfortable than the hulla hoop looking one. You just might have to re fluff but that might not be too bad because when you go to touch up your make up you could do it then.

I agree with Kupkake, the hoop one looks very uncomfortable so I would go with the first one.

The hoops remind me of those old movies where women would sit down and their dress would come over their head. hahaha

Yeah that is what I thought of, I was actually watching this show the other day called wild weddings and the girl on there had one of those on and when she bent over to pick something up, you could see everything..lol

haha I have seen that as well. Not something I want to have happen on my wedding day. Hence why I have opted out of wearing heels on my wedding day as well... haha

i would go with the lined netting petty coat. they hold up better and are not as scratchy if you are going to wear it for hours on end :)

Hey everyone. Thank you for all of your replies. You have given me great confidence to go ahead with the netting petticoat.
I don't want to go with the hoop one because of the horror stories I have heard including what heatherc7379defd said about the girl bending over and people saw everything. I would die of embarassement if something like that happened to me.
Just to let you know the netting petticoat is about $85. Do you that it is reasonable? I am not sure how much petticoats cost, so is the price worth this one?

Hoops, contrary to popular belief, aren't as uncomfortable or complicated as people make them out to be. If you're wedding is outside, a hoop is BY FAR less constricting and hot because it keeps all of the fabric of your dress off of your legs.
When it comes to sitting, the reason that hoops fly up when some brides sit down is that the bridal shop failed to teach her how to sit in it..... Hint: When you get ready to sit, reach around and grab the back of your skirt and lift up a few inches...THEN sit. Lifting the fabric makes the hoops lie flat so they lay across your lap, rather than flipping up.
*Spent too much time working in a bridal shop* :)
