What is everyone doing for reception music? Does anyone have any good or bad experiences with reception music and/or DJ's? Do you provide a list of songs you want played? Do you ask DJ's to provide you with samples and/or references???
Please help :)

The DJ I'm having has DJ'd for many of our family events in the past and has always done a good job, so we chose him. He gave us a paper to fill out with some general info about the styles of music we want played and whether we were doing any special dances and things like the dollar dance, bouquet toss, garter toss, ect. Otherwise we are providing with a list of some songs we would like played as well. Hope that helps a little! :)

We are creating a couple cds, one with all the special dances and things that happen during the reception and cds with music that we enjoy for everybody to dance to. We are trying to keep the costs down a little and my bfs stepdad has dj equipment. We are planning on using that and having him doing the little controlling that will be needed.

I will be going with a DJ, but I haven't even shopped around yet. Just make sure to check their references and see what kind of events they usually do. Remember these guys have done it before. They will probably be able to answer any questions you have regarding what songs and when. Just because they have done it before, though, doesn't mean you should speak up if you don't like something. Im just saying that they will probably be able to answer a lot of your questions and if you are unsure about how the 'norm' is then they will most likely be able to cover that as well.

We are going to have a family friend do the DJing. He has a Karoke machine and is NUTS. WE are going to put together a wedding mix on my Ipod and just have a list for him of when to play what. Like the first dance and the garter toss and stuff. He is a nut and I have known him since I was a little girl, so I know he knows us really well and is a HOOT!
