I'm thiking about having mini wedding cakes on each guest table as a centerpiece, then when it comes to cake time they can eat the cake on their table, and the large traditional wedding cake would feed the head table, and the rest would be styrofoam. I would like to have some feed back on this idea. Has anyone done this? or any suggestions??
thanks, Kim

That sound's like a neat idea. I never even thought of that. I haven't heard of it, but if I haven't already commited to a cake, I may have done it myself.

The idea is great as long as its in your budjet. Miniature cakes are actualy more work than a large one and tend to start at $10.00 each!

I have head of this Idea before somewhere. You even have cheesecake or chocolate cake since it is seperate from the wedding cake. If you did regular cupcakes it wouldn't be too costly, but when they are designed to look like mini wedding cakes they get pretty costly.

actually we are thinking of doing that.. one is for dual purpose.. so we don't have to spend money on the centerpiece and also cut the cost for the sweet table and have everyone try out different cakes frm each table.. i thought that would be a great way to get to know each other and break the ice.. don't u agree.?? here's my take on this..
i was imagining to put the cake on four plastic pedastals that u can get from a craft store .. secure that with a nail and wood for the cake.. ( u can get remnants from menards or somethig and paint it white or go to walmart and find dollar per yard fabrics and place the cake on top and put votive candles on the side of it.. i thinnk it would look amazing.. hope this helps..

actually my fh cousin did that for his wedding. they had different cakes at each table. they were sitting on a column thing, and it was really nice. but the only bad thing is if you do that make sure there are more columns underneath it or leave it sit on the table. because at the wedding when it was time to cut the cakes you normally take pieces from one side and go around...but when you take a couple one side is heavier and a lot of the cakes fell over on the tables making a big mess out of the cake and the table! hope this helps.

Very good suggestion! I would even think about putting them on a crystal cake holder. They usually have the big base, then a single thick crystal piece that goes to the round crystal top that you would put a cake in. You can even put rose petals around the bottom to dress it up.
