Is there anyone from the Philly, PA area that has any fresh or unique ideas for a bride and groom on a reeeeeeeally tight budget for a ceremony/reception? We would like to have both at the same place as my side of the family will be driving in from 3 hours away. I have just started checking out sites and prices for caterers, parks, restaurants, banquet halls, etc. in the area over the past few weeks and I am about to pull out my hair and cry. I know there has got to be something out there in our area that is within our financial reach and is still charming. Any advice would be ever so greatly welcome... thank you so much!

My fiance and I found that booking on a holiday weekend (ours is over fourth of July next year) we got offered discounts. Also, if you are willing to be married on a Sunday they will normally lower the price. What area are you from? We ended up booking a place near Quakertown, PA that included plated dinner, dj, band, and fireworks for a flat rate that will be 40 bucks a person if we total 150 guests. I highly recommend the place, since we've attended one wedding there we know they do a great job. It is called The Meadows in Hellertown, PA. Website - www.meadowspa.com
Good Luck! :)

i'm also looking in the philly area and are in the same situation as you. i just emailed the convention and visitors bureau in philly for help, since i read about brides in other cities using this resource to get hotels to compete for their business...i'll let you know what kind of reply i get.

I'm not from PA but the only advice I can offer is to look into hotels in your area. I will actually be having my reception at the Holiday Inn. I asked the caterer how many weddings they have during the year and she said about 20. She said she really wished that they could have more, but people don't usually think of a hotel when they think of weddings. Usually with a hotel you get great amenities like a complimentary room for the bride and groom, a cheaper stay for guests, we will be having a free complimentary room for the bridal shower, and they even provide beautiful centerpieces, linens, etc. They even do all set up and tear down for you. We got all this for a little over $3000, which was way cheaper than anything we've found, and we've looked exhausively. We went this past weekend to put a deposit down and there was actually a wedding that was being set up for with the ceremony in one room and the recpetion all set up and ready to go in the next. Hotels are usually very pretty, and the service is great.

well they weren't any help- she just sent me a list of the most popular (and expensive) places and the link to their website where you can search different venues. which also didn't help.

i'm about 2 hours north of philly, but we just got married in one of our local fire halls. for us it was free because my husband is the past chief, but for other people to rent it is only about $200. we could decorate any way we wanted, there were already tables, chairs, plates and silverware there.
here are some pics

this is with the lights dimmed and the decorations lit...you can see the buffet table and bar in the background...it looks the same as any catering hall

What about the VFW or the Elks Lodge/Moose Lodge in your area? We got married at the VFW lodge and had the reception there also. Very reasonable, pricewise and everyone was impressed with the place. BTW, our ceremony was done by my boss, so that helped with costs.
