I am getting married in Maui in September 2004. I am having a surprise Groom's cake made for my fiance. He loves frogs, so I am having my baker make a very authentic looking frog cake. If you have ever seen the movie Steel Magnolias, they had an armadillo groom's cake, that's where I got the idea!
It is going to look awesome! My question is: Is it okay to serve my guests the frog cake, that way my fiance and I can just get a small cake for us to do the cake cutting. I don't want to get a large wedding cake and then have this big frog cake, it will just be too much cake and I am already spending a fortune on this frog cake. I think it would be fun o eat frog cake! Let me know your thoughts, I need opinions!!
Thanks!
KJ

That is what we are doing. Having a groom"s cake also at the wedding and serving that. It's your choice if you want to. All weddings are different. *Heather*

It is perfectly okay to serve the froggie to your guests! They will have a blast eating it! Another idea that has been traditional in the past is to cut up the groom's cake and send it home with your guests in little serving-size boxes as your favor. Superstition says that if an unmarried woman sleeps with the cake under her pillow, she will dream of the man she will marry. (Sounds kinda messy to me :p ) Good luck! The frog is a really cute idea and I bet it will go over great!

I'd just be sure all the cakes are the same flavor, so guests don't have to choose. We had a big wedding cake (white) and our large groom's cake was German Chocolate, so we had a choice, only that we had a much larger wedding cake than you plan to have. If you are only having a little cake just for cutting, make al the cakes the same flavor, the guests won't feel left out if your tiny cake is chocolate and they have to settle for white cake. :)

i have been thinking about this for a few days. I think it would be awesome. As long as the inside of the frog isn't blood red velvet cake. We are going to have a small grooms cake decorate with my guy's favortie nascar driver's colors.. which just happen to coordinate with the wedding colors... go figure  , but he hasn't caught on to that one yet. His sister is having carrot cake for a grooms cake. Do what you want!! At the very least people will remeber your unique wedding cake for years. And hey, if it tastes good... who cares if it is a frog leg!!!! :p
