I'm new to this site and I'm getting married next month. Its my second wedding so I wasnt really wanting a traditional white gown and something not as formal. So, as I was shopping I really wasnt looking for anything in particular but I found a gorgeous black dress! Its a v-neck with a black satin ribbon underneath the bust line then an empire like waist and falls straight. Everyone is giving me a hard time, its a wedding not a funeral type comments. However, I love it! It's comfortable and just dressy enough to work! And I wasnt sure what Jack would wear but now that I've decided on black he can do black pants, white shirt with tie, very elegant. I can do a white boquet with black in it, etc....any opinions?? I'm kinda at the point of its MY wedding....etc...haha

Thanks ward!! My thoughts exactly! My fiance and I did crack up though because we were joking about the "gasp" we would hear from everyone when I walk out in black!! LOL...

I also have a wedding dress with black beading. Our colors are red and black and I saw this dress in the window when I went to try on gowns. My mom was with me and when I pointed it out she gave me this look that said "you've gotta be joking". So when we went inside I tried on all these different dresses and I finally told my mom that I was going to try the black one on that was in the window and she just sat there and watched and when I ***e out with it on she had tears in her eyes which she never did with any of the other dresses. So, while black isn't the traditional color I think once people see the dress on you they will be amazed. You will be beautiful and they will realize why you chose that dress. :)

I think that that's so cool that you're thinking of wearing a black wedding dress. Personally I'm not a fan of the traditional white wedding dresses...originally I was thinking of getting a blue one...now I'm going to try to be extra gutsy and go for gold. So I think that it's awesome, and like wardfamaz said it's your wedding, do whatever you like! ^_^ Besides to me black isn't just a color for "funerals" it's a color of elegance. ^_^ Black and white bouquet? Very classy. I like it. Black/dark blue flowers are always so beautiful, and very unique. So are your wedding colors just black and white? Or do you also have some red in it? For some odd reason whenever I heard of a black and white wedding I always assume that there's a third color - which is always red so please excuse my assumption. So a few questions for you...are you going to have a white or black flower in your hair? Or are you going to have a tiara? Do you have a picture of the dress because from the way you described it, I'm pretty sure that it looks fabulous. Sorry for all the chit chat, I'm just so curious. Congrats on finding your perfect dress ^_^.

Thanks everyone for your support! And ***i, I'm not having any attendants or groomsmen. Like I said its our second wedding so its just a small group of family and friends under 30 so really no one is "standing up" with us. I dont have a pic of it but I found it at Dillards and for only $90! lol Total deal! There isnt a third color because it is so small but the centerpieces on the tables I am having floating candles with rose petals so I'm sure I could include some black in there as well so I think it will all come together! Its also outside so we are doing floating candles in the pool, white rose candles and that was before I even bought the dress! For my hair I'm thinking white or maybe not a tiara but a comb with diamonds or sparkly flowers? Not sure yet and then I will have to bouqet to tie in with that. So now that I have it all planned I dont feel like looking for another dress...as my grandma, friends, etc suggest...haha! A gold dress sounds awesome and very classy looking! In my looking I didnt see very many gold, just mainly suit type dresses more for the mothers dress, but yeah that sounds very pretty! You could really do a lot with that color as far as accessorizing. Good Luck!

Some people are just very traditional because when I told my family that I was wearing ivory they were like why this is your first marriage and you dont have any kids, Why. So I kept looking and right now I have my eye on a pink and gold dress. Now they are like hmmm maybe ivory isn't so bad. Do what you want. I personally love color and things that are different. Everytime I see a white wedding dresses its like oh but when I see one with color its like wow where did you get that at. Go with the black if thats what you want.

You also need to consider what colour looks best on you. I can't wear certain some shades of white or black right up around my face. It makes me look washed out. I will be wearing an ivory dress. But I think you should wear what you feel most comfortable in from both a style and colour perspective.

When I first opened this thread, I was thinking of a traditional style wedding dress in black. The dress you describe sounds gorgeous! I'm sure it will be okay, besides everyone gasps when the bride walks out!
I've always wanted a white wedding gown. When I went to the bridal stores, I was suprised at how many dresses now come in ivory or gold instead of the traditional white. The dress I'm getting is going to be white of course, I tried a "golden" colored one on in the store, and I didn't think it complimented me, although others did. I'm excited to get my dress! I keep counting down from when I first purchased it!

That sounds so wonderful! ^_^ Thank you for sharing the details. Great bargain on the dress too!!! You should definitely go for it since it looks good on you, sounds gorgeous, and has a very great price. Your wedding sounds extremely adorable. I especially like the idea of the candles in the pool, it all sounds so romantic! ^_^ I know what you're talking about in terms of the comb. I actually bought a comb somewhat similar to what you're describing from this small shop that makes all these kinds of hair accessories. I can't remember what it's called......but they can make hair clips/barettes that are small or large and in many different colors. The store is so pretty when you walk in, it's really shiny from all the cute little gems and rhinestones and things in the store. I've seen their shop in Chicago, IL as well as Sacramento, CA. But anyway if you want I can show you a picture of the one that I have, it's got different shades of light blue flowers made out of gems/rhinestones it's absolutely cute!!! But I'm sure that either way if you get a hair comb/accessory or wear a flower in your hair that you will look absolutely stunning, ^_^.

Hey ***i no problem and youre right I think I'm sticking with it! Yeah I still need to figure out how I want my hair. The style of hair I have is long in the front and short in the back kind of angled bob so I was planning on putting it behind my ears and some flowers or jeweled combs at the part kinda toward the back...I'm doing it myself too so I can adjust as needed. So, when is your wedding? I know your dress is gold but any other details?

And to Roxy, yeah its not a typical wedding dress. I actually found it in evening gowns and can you believe I'm still getting the OMG a black dress??? hahaha Oh well I know our pictures will turn out great so thats all I'm concerned about! Im not sure how white would have been anyway, ivory maybe but I'm pretty fair skin with auburn hair and I think the black will be a nice contrast. Thanks for your support!

Well I've always wanted a gold dress for a while, I've always been a fan of weddings. When I was a sophomore in high school I even wanted to become a wedding planner....anyway, unfortunately I won't be having a wedding for a while. I'm not even "officially" engaged yet because my boyfriend wants to ask my parents permission first....he's quite the gentleman - very traditional. He already told me that he's going to ask me "officially" sometime soon - from his hints I'm really starting to think that he's going to ask me in January or February but I'm really not sure. I'm horrible because I hate surprises, so I've been trying to get it out of him when he's going to ask me. But do to certain circumstances - the fact that I want my father to be at my wedding - but he's 86 years old and he has been very sick for most of my life, so we're kinda speeding up the process a bit, my dad has always said that he wants to see his little girl get married before he passes on and I'm daddy's little girl, so I would like nothing more than to have him walk me down the isle....I'm thinking probably August of 2008. But I've still got time to think about it and all. So I just have some ideas, but nothing concrete as of yet. Although Nick and I are always talking about how if we could we'd get married tomorrow - not elope or anything...just have a nice wedding to celebrate our love to one and another. But yes I won't go on and bore you with the details, ^_^. Thanks for asking though, ^_^. I'm glad that you've settled on the black dress, please send us pictures when you wear it at the ceremony! I'm sure that you'll look gorgeous, and everyone will be in awe - believe me I'm sure that you'll get tons of compliments on your pick - especially from your future husband. It's always wonderful to make his jaw drop right? ^_^ Congrats again on finding your dress! ^_^

If you want a black dress, then you can have it. However, in order to smooth over feelings, I would recommend adding a brightly colored sash--white or pink or red or green or just whatever color you want.

In Spain black dresses were the traditional color a long time ago. This probably doesn't help. For an evening wedding I think it would be alright.

Getting a black wedding dress is so cool! No matter what others may say or think, you should do what you makes you happy because this is YOUR day. Afterwards, they won't remember a thing about your wedding, but the memories will stay forever with you, make it memorable. I, on the other hand, always dreamed of having a white wedding dress, and that is what I ordered at David's Bridal. It arrives in January and I can't wait for my first fitting! The wedding is on May 5th. When is yours?
I watched a wedding show recently where the bride wore white but with black trim and beading. When asked why she chose black as her trim even though her bridesmaids were dressed in red she responded by saying that black signifies "Till death do us part". I thought that it was a really nice touch and very thoughtful.
You can explain to your guests that since it is your second time getting married you believe that this one is for real and will be till death do you part and that is why you felt it important to wear black to this one.
