My finance is lactose intolerant though medicines for the most part help. Anyone have any ideas for the cake in this situation? I'd prefer not to have any problems in this regards.

My friend is lactose intolerant and cake and stuff is fine to have. I guess im not an expert or anything, but I know that she can have cake. Hmm does soy milk bake well? well good luck, I don't really know what to tell ya
I would just ask whoever is baking your cake. I used to be allergic to milk, it would cause asthma type symptoms, so my grandmother would make my cakes with a non-dairy creamer. I imagine they might have even better things available now because this was 15-20 years ago. Also, if you haven't already, check with your fh to see if cake is usually a problem, it doesn't seem to me like it would be because there is so little milk in the actual cake. Possibly a lot of icing would be tough on him, but I'm not sure. (I forget what is in it.) If icing is the problem, just get a cake that is not over done with icing or make sure he doesn't eat all of it.

You could also get a kosher wedding cake. Basically, observant jews don't mix milk and meat, so there's a wide number of tricks we've learned over the years to make something taste dairy when it's not. Believe me, every jewish wedding I've been to has a cake that you'd never guess was non-dairy, but it is. If you want a non-dairy cake, go to the experts.
