This might sound dumb but Ive found the baker I want to use for my wedding cake. On her website it says she uses butter cream frosting but can use different things if requested. Can anyone tell me what butter cream tastes like? I dont think Ive ever had it (if so I didnt know). The concern I have is that my FH hates that Best Cream frosting that you can get at like supermarkets and stuff (hannaford and Shaws in this area) and I wanted to know if it was anything like that??

if i am not mistaken butter cream is the usual wedding cake frosting but i am not sure you can buy it in a container at walmart in the crafts section if you want to try it

Butter cream icing is the basic (i don't think that is the word i was looking for) icing for the cake. You should ask your baker to let you taste some samples. I'm sure even the worst icing at a bakery is 10 times better than the supermarket brand. I want cream cheese icing on mine but my FH is very lactose intolerant

It depends on how they make it but this caterer that I work with occassionaly uses butter cream on his red velvett cake and carrot cake. But usually its always on red velvett. It has a more rich taste for the most part it taste the same or in some cases is the same as cream cheese frosting. Did I help a little or confuse you even more?

...butter cream is really sweet, better cream is the not too sweet, yet fluffy alternative.

If you like cream cheese frosting, go for that. I personally think it's got a much better flavor. Butter cream is usually very very sweet and is probably part of the reason that wedding cakes often don't taste very good. But just in general, all buttercream frosting means is that it's a frosting made with butter and cream along with sugar of course, and whatever other flavors you want, like chocolate, vanilla, coffee etc.
