My fiance' and I still don't have our first dance song picked out either. Him and I have a couple of songs that remind us of when we first started dating. One is: "Angel of Mine"-by: Monica another is: "She's More"-by Andy Griggs. Check them out if you can!

This may be used too often for you (though not among the younger generation lately), but if my husband and I had danced at the reception then our first song would have been Nat King Cole's Unforgettable.

Hello again. I picked out another song! I think that I'm going to use this one when my fiance' and I dance for the first time. It's A Moment Like This by Kelly Clarkson . It is such a pretty song. Of course, I change my mind on songs like I change my underwear!!! LoL I might have a ton more before your wedding!! -Amber :p

Our first dance was "Ribbon in the Sky (For Our Love)" by Stevie Wonder off his "Musiquarium" cd...don't always think you have to pick a song popular today...I've known that song for 20 years and once I played it for hubby he agreed we had to have it as a first dance song... :D

I really like Keith Urban's "I'll be your everything", but would like to try to find a live, acustic verson of it as the radio edit isn't nearly as nice. I like Kenny Chesney's "the Good Stuff", but the groom seems to think that no one should die during a first dance song. Go figure.... We really like Dave Matthews and are going to look into what he has for slower song that no one dies in. I would say go with a person or group that you like... whether they are mainstream or not. My father/daughter dance may be to a Rosmary Clooney song and the party dance maybe "Moonlight serenade" by Glen Miller. Otherwise, we will probably find a Harry Connick Jr. song for our first dance....

Hi, my fiance and I are using "You make me feel brand new" by stylistics. Although we are a young couple, we have old souls, and this is a beautiful song. Hope it helps! Please let me know what you choose.. :p

I agree that "Ribbon In The Sky" by Stevie Wonder is a gorgeous song, too...

THe version by Natalie and her father is very appropriate

All of your songs are really great ones to choose from. My fiance and I are going to use " It's Your Love" by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. It's used a lot I have heard but we think it's the perfect song to describe our love for each other. If you are having trouble finding a song, just go to about any wedding site on the internet and they have song lists that you can look through for any song you need for the wedding :)

I am a huge DMB fan and I am going to play a song off of Dave Matthew's solo album "Some Devil" called "Oh" at my reception. You should check it out and let me know what you think. :)

thanks for the DBM suggestion... however the groom's response was... kinda fast... I tried a live verison of the Alman Brother's Soul Shine... not a slow dance song... At the rate he's going we will be 64 by the time he picks a song. :D

I am using " At Last" by: Etta James. It is a very beautiful song. Not too many people have heard of it. If you can't find her version you may want to try celine dions. I think it is on her next to last cd (it has a blue front, i cant think of the name of it)

The best way to have a song that's not used very often is to look at the older songs.

My sister and her husband danced to "What A Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong.

we're using "today" by the smashing pumpkins...we had run through a lot of songs (the cure's love song, just like heaven, NIN's we're in this together now, digger's geek love) and this we picked because it's the only pseudo-danceable one we could come up with that actually worked for us.

We've chosen "Heaven" by DJ Sammy (originally by Bryan Adams). We're using the slow version, not the techno one. FH actually chose that song, and I love it! I get all teary-eyed every time I hear it :p

That's also our song too (Angel of Mine). But we wanted to do another song for our first dance. All these newer songs keep coming up that just make us think of each other. It's such a fun time just sitting together or being seperate and then telling each other "I was thinking of you today...". I never heard of Godsend though, I'll have to look for it.

My first dance song is by an up and coming artist... his name is Oliver James and the song is called "The Greatest Story Ever Told". My two best friends, who are also my band mates, are going to perform it for us at my wedding.

Currently, "Through the eyes of Love (Theme from Ice Castles)" is winning with my groom. It's by Melissa Manchester. It's not so bad. And it's so old now that no one really uses it anymore.

Anything by Shania Twain is WAY overused.

My fiance and I have not totally decided yet on our first dance song yet but I agree with the Kelly Clarkson song. It is gorgeous!!! I also like the Clay Aiken song This is the Night. I fell in love with that song when I was dancing with my fiance at his company Christmas party.

Our song was Amazed. My finace and I met in highschool and everytime we went to a dance the first song they would play that we danced to, everytime, was Amazed. So we adopted it as our song. I know a lot of people use this song. But we are using it because it is special to us.

My fiancee also chose "Heaven", but it is a version by Yalou (or something like that). It is also slow with only a piano and string instruments behind her voice.

As seen and heard on the Food Network's Paula Deen Wedding Special..."Here" performed by Meghan Shanley is now available to brides nationwide on Itunes. After the song was performed especially for Paula at her reception, there was such a demand for the song that it was made available to the public on Itunes.com. It can be downloaded for just .99 and it is the most absolutely perfect song for a couple's first dance. Some brides have already started using it this year! For more info on the artist or complete downloading steps go to www.meghanshanley.com
Happy wedding day to all you brides!!

My fiance and I are using 'our' song by lonestar "I'm Already There" When we first started seeing each other he was away at boot camp and he wrote me this long flowing letter saying that If i wanted to know how he felt that i should listen to "I'm already there" and "In Carrying your Love with me". Well I'm already there stuck more then the other one and it became our song

A couple I was considering 'I Melt' or 'Feels Like Today' by Rascall Flatts or maybe 'How Forever Feels' by Kenny Chesney. I know they're country songs, but they're great songs. I've got a list a mile long if anyone needs any suggestions.

Our song has a great history for us - its actually the first song we ever danced to together - and that was as friends - its sung by a local band - and they're friends of mine - My friend Bryan, the singer is going to sing the song for us - We're also having our rings engraved with words from the song -one of the lines from the song is "You're my friend, my lover, you're my strength and my pride"
So we're having my friend my lover on one ring and my strength my pride on the other. The song is very special to us :)

Well, I was just going over some of the music for the wedding and my FH and I will dance to Tracy Byrd's The Keeper of the Stars for our first dance. It has a lot of meaning because we had meet and then did not see each other for over a year. We then meet again at the same place we meet the first time and here we are now getting married. I guess it was meant to be!!

Okay as far as songs go I really don't like sappy romantic songs. Some of them just make my stomach churn. However, you have to take into account that I listen to mostly punk, Jazz, old rock and old country. Alot of the newer stuff that comes out just plain hurts my ears. Our first Song will Be
"Girl with Gardenias in Her Hair" By Marty Robbins. I love that song and it is a tango so yeah. DOn't forget that you don't have to go with "Traditional" music. Just remember HAVE FUN with whatever you pick. Mary :)

My FH suggested "We've only just begun" by the carpenters but I love "I swear" by All-4-One. He also liked it once he heard it. I think I will use his for after we are marry and we are walking out of the ceremony. Do you have a mother-son dance? check out "A song For my Son on His wedding Day" by Mkki Viereck... It's great.

I just read through all these posts and am totally overwhelmed with all the choices!!! Thing is I loved the song my cousin used at her wedding and my fiance likes it too -- "Change for the Better" by Eric Colville. It's kind of bluesy and says everything I want it to say--perfect for a slow/sexy dance. Problem is I don't think many people have heard of it.....maybe it's better to go with something more familiar??

Go with what touches your heart! Don't do something for familiarity - do it because its you. The song I chose is by a local blues band I'm friends with - I don't care who's heard it before - they're going to hear it when we dance to it!!! :)

Well my fiance and I decided on KC & Jojo "All My Life" because when we first started dating in 1998 it was played almost everytime we went out. I have also decided on Bob Carlisle's "Butterfly Kisses" for my Father & Bride dance, the first time I heard this song was while I was on a date with my fiance and I said to him if I ever get married this will be the song I dance with my father.

However, I was wondering if anyone has good ideas for songs for when the Bride & Groom leave the church???

My fiance chose our song... It is "Open Arms" by Journey. I also plan on dancing with my father to "Butterfly Kisses".

My fiance and I are having a bagpiper (he is half Scottish), so we'll be leaving behind him while he plays....

armitage:
You can play the wedding march again when you leave. I am sure there are many other songs too. You could also leave to your song.

Hope that helps a little...

We are planning on using I Swear for our first Dance as well and using We've only just began when we walk out of our ceremony. I'm happy to see that someone else has the same ideas as we do.

We're still deciding, but this one is sticking out to me...

"Come What May" Nicole Kidman & Ewan McGregor (Moulin Rouge soundtrack)

However, you ladies can feel free to IM me or email me for suggestions. I have an MP3 collection spanning over a mulititude of genres and I'm a music master overall (I refuse to be modest!!). So I don't mind taking a bit of time out of my planning to help others out with their music lists!

We've decided we wanted to go with something not so common, but heard of. I selected "Just you and I" For the life of me, at this moment I forget who sang it, but it's a duet. I was initially thinking of At last, by Etta James, then heard Celine Dion's version and loved it better, however, I wanted a duet. There are so many to choose from. :)

"Just You and I" is sang by the duo of Eddie Rabbit and Crystal Gayle. It's funny you mentioned this song because it is also on our list of songs to be played at the reception.

We haven't completely decided on our song but my FH dedicated "secret Smile" to me when we first started dating so I would like to have that as our song. It's by... wow I completely went blank! I have the CD in my car and I listen to it everyday but my mind went blank. They also sing "Closing time," Hey that sounds like a good song for the exit; maybe we'll have "Closing Time" playing when we leave the building. :D

We're going to dance to Keith Urban's new song "Making Memories of Us". Someone said "I don't think someone should die in the song". So right. In this song, there's a line, "I wanna die in your arms, baby..." Every time I hear it, and think about dancing to it, I cry. It fits like the perfect dress!

No one dies in that song! Its a song about living out your lives together until you die - you know, that whole death do us part thing that you will have said earlier in the day :) You're absolutely right - its a beautiful song and I was watching the CMT awards last night and when he sang it I must say I got a little teary eyed :) I think we're going to use it as our last dance of the night together :)

I can see its been a few days since anyone replied to this, but I wanted to throw in my 2 cents anyway-

I plan on using God Bless the Broken Road by Rascal Flatts, but if you're looking for an old standard, let me suggest Night and Day by Frank Sinatra.

Also, I mentioned this in another post, but let me say, ultimatewedding.com's music page has helped me a ton with brainstorming for wedding music for all aspects of the wedding and reception.

I thought we were the only ones who would ever think of using that as our first song. what made you decide to use it? we chose it because it says so much about us as a couple if you actually pay attention to the words. and we are both HUGE Metallica fans so that helps too. nice choice
