I am having my wedding in July '05. I always thought I would have my best friend be my brides maid at my wedding. Now, she lives in Baltimore, and is very busy at this time in our lives. I have a wonderful future sister-in-law, who has been offering her help a lot with the wedding stuff, she even wants to come to the gown fittings with me. I really would LOVE to have my friend be my MOH, but I don't think she will be able to handle the responsibities being so far away. I hear that the MOH is suppose to arrange the bridal shower/bachelorette party and other stuff. Please send advise! I still have not picked a MOH. I do have sisters but we are not that close.

I am my best friend's maid-of-honor this summer in Iowa...right now I live in Los Angeles...so as you can imagine...it's hard getting things done for her 2000+miles away.
Because she is my best-friend, I couldn't imagine anyone else taking the job as MOH even thought I am far away.
I am still planning her Bachlorette party but her mother-n-law is taking over the bridal shower.
I picked out her bridesmaid dresses for 7 different sized girls. She ended up loving them.
Communication is the key to any long-distance relationship.
I would talk to your friend about you wanting her to be your maid-of-honor. Express to her that she is your first choice but you understand if she isn't able to take on the responsiblity so far away.
Hey, I know it's cheesy, but if there's a will, there certainly is a way!
Good Luck!

I was going to have my best friend in Florida be my Maid of Honor (I live in PA). She accepted greatfully! But then we have been talking about it for months, and she would rather have me pick someone else that is just as close up here. We then decided that she was going to be a Bride's Maid instead. She is just as happy with that! Anyways, I am flying down to Florida to visit her this July, to help her find the Bride's Maid dress. I can't wait! Things still end up great in the end!! -Amber :o

I am a MOH in a wedding in April 05 (out of state) and got married in 03 in FL with 9 Bride's mades from LA to Boston. Been a bride's made 4 times and other roles, too. That said, your sister in law is an EXCELLENT choice for MOH and is already seeming to do the stuff you would need from her. Let your Baltimore friend do a reading and or be a hostess at the Rehersal & dinner. I've done these and other roles for friends & family when I could not afford the $ or time to be a maid/MOH. Also, you will need a "Go To" person the day of the wedding. I had a college friend do that for me and MAN was it a saving grace. You need a level headed person that can make quick decisions that would also likely make the ones you would choose in a pinch. I've been this person and been the bride using this. I listed those folks in the wedding program with "Special Thanks to ....". She is your friend, talk to her and she will likely agree with some or all of this. Good luck..
