My fiancee and I are getting married October 8th,2005. I'm Lutheran and she's Pentacostal and our families wouldn't approve of us getting married in another church other than the one we were raised in so we decided to get married outside in a heated tent. That prolem was solved, now the current dilema is what kind of officiate to get? Anyone have any suggestions that may satisy both sides of the family?

A JP or notary is fairly neutral, but it sounds as if you want a religious ceremony. Perhaps both of your pastors would agree to take part? When my parents got married, Dad was Roman Catholic and Mom was Lutheran, so the Catholic church definitely did not approve (keep in mind this was 33 years ago). But they were able to have both pastors officiate at my Mom's church.

Whatever you decide, this is your day and your new life together, and you may decide to go against your families' wishes. This can be tough, I know -- my husband asked my Dad for my hand, and he said NO! :p Don't let them make your decision for you, and don't let them make you feel bad about your decision. Good luck!

You may want to have one of your good friends or someone both sets of parents consider to be good spiritual advisors marry you. In many places, it's fairly easy for a layperson to become a JOP.
