My fiancee' and I are planning our wedding but having some troubles with our parties. She has one brother but they are not close at all. She decided (and I completely support her) that she would rather not have him stand up at our wedding. However, this is causing some strife within her family, namely with her mother and grandmother who think he should be in. His social skills are lacking so we know that he would not want to usher or even hand out programs. Is there any solution that might make everyone happy or will one of us have to just put up with the other one's decision? Any helpful suggetions that can be offered would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

What about making him a reader in the ceremony? Or maybe he could be in charge of the guestbook or gift table.

He could help cut the cake....if he's uncomfortable with people, this one doesn't require much in the way of social skills.

One possible idea is to have him as an attendant - someone designated to light candles or something like that - this way, he's in the wedding but not really in the forefront with a lot of responsibility.
