I was told that you can count on a certain percentage of guest not attending the ceremony, and only coming to the reception. Is this true? Does anyone know the percentage?

You can safely count on 25% of the people that you invite to not show up. For my own wedding, I had a 33% attrition rate.

Be very very careful about these assumptions. Its crazy what can happen. My brother had about half of the people that RSVP'd to his wedding show up (It was a HOT rainy day and an outside wedding) whereas my sister had more than 100% of the people that RSVP'd to her wedding show up. My advice is to really look over who said they're showing up and look at their reliability...are they close family, local, good good friends or the flake at work that can't remember to show up for a meeting? All in all, I'd plan for 90-100% of your respondents.
