I am geting married in August and I am having a terrible time finding lilac or purple flowers to go in my bouquet!! I cannot use purple roses as i was told that the buds come closed up and they do not open very well. Hydrengas are also very exensive here ,15.00 a head and I do not know what else to use! I have until 2005, but I cannot seem to find anything. The one flower store that I went to said that I could spray paint white roses purple,,NO THANKS!!! I am hoping that someone has some good flower advice. Thanks, Lisa from Canada.

I think you should just find out what purple flowers are available when you have your wedding or find out how exspensive it is for them to order what you want.

why not white roses that have been sprayed? they don't use spray paint like the kind from home depot... if you're not sure you would like it, if you're not really sure what it even is, why don't you go to a florist that you like and ask them to see a sample rose that has been sprayed purple. it might also be really pretty to have a bunch of roses all sprayed with the same color purple, but in different ammounts. do you know what i mean? some are sprayed just a little, some more than that, and others sprayed alot. same color just different shades. in high school, i spent a day at the vo-tech horticulture class, and believe me, they don't use hardware store spray paint...ok i guess this is long enough, but i just want to say this again - ask to see a sample rose that has been sprayed. couldn't hurt, right?
hope this helps...

Hey,
Go to www.micheals.com and at the wedding section click on theme wedding ideas and then choose a wedding in shades of purple. They have all sorts of ideas for purple. Also look at tulips/freesia/orchids/lisianthus - just a couple of flowers I can think of that comes in a shade of purple.
Hope that helps a little.

I'm sure you've recieved many different responses to your problems.
I am getting married August of 2005. Our colors are Lilac & Silver and ceremony will be outdoors.
I went to school for Floral Designs. Personally I suggest that you DO NOT go with the Spray painted flowers. Many florists will gladly do it, however I feel that it doesn't look as nice. And some of the flowers don't always last as long. As far as the lavendar roses go you can always try them. If you place them in warm water a day or so in advance they may open up. Get a couple of them a month or so in advance and try it. Then you can decide what you'd like better. You can also try silk and real flowers together. Noone will tell the difference and it looks just as nice. You may be able to find the perfect color purple in silk.
I don't know if you've got your dress yet but if not you can always try EBAY. They have a great variety and very good deals. Also try www.weddingsolutions.com or www.theknot.com for more flower ideas.
If you have any questions please feel free to email me: kelcie-stumbo@excite.com

Order white flowers. Put them in water for a day or two, but add non-toxic purple dye to the water, like the kind cake decorators use to dye their icing. See how this works... since your wedding is relatively far away, you have time to try it out.

Our colors are lavander and yellow and white. I am considering roses and carnations. Youcan get regualr sized flowers ro mini ones. Our florist had a book in it with a very nice carnation and caspia boquet. I haven't asked about purple or lavander roses yet, but I am glad that you posted what you were told. I may also try that tinting idea. I know that in my bouquet at least there is going to be mostly white with accent color. Of course that is also the way my dress is, white with lavander accents and trim.

My colors for my wedding was lavendar, purple and silver with white. I went and opted for silk flowers for everything and saved alot of money. I found it on this site: www.bridesbouquet.com. The flowers were absolutely stunning and they will last you forever. Good luck

My wedding is in August too. I have found that Dragon snaps are in season during that time and they come in many many colors plus they are inexpensive which is nice. I'm not sure what you want to use them for but they are a great flower.
Try doing a search on flowers in bloom during the month of August. You should be able to get plenty of idea's.

If you are doing the flowers yourself go to rainbowroses.com I think they have lavender roses. or you could try lavender rose.com they are freeze dried, but look like real. If you are having a florist surely they can check with the wholesale houses and find them for you.

My mother and I talked to the florist this week. We decided that we are going to use carnations for almost eveything. The come in various shades of purple and are avaible year round. They are also cheaper than roses... :D Plus the color variation is better than on roses. My mom also put in her 2 cents that if it's really hot, roses will wilt faster than carnations. I don't know if that is true, but I don't want dead flowers by the time pictures are over.

The best purple flower for a wedding I would have to say is the Calla Lily. It is in season all year round it has a deep purple hue or white or yellow. The long stalks on this flower make an unusual centerpiece or bonquet. It is the main flower in my wedding and it is just beautiful.

another purple option, depending on your other color ideas would be panseys, violets or tulips. Panseys and violets are small flowers I know, but you could always fill out the buoquet with something that is easy to obtain that would compliment your purple color scheme, like white or cream roses. You can sometimes find Lilys in a purple color too. Perhaps you should try and find a wholesale flower seller near where you live. In Boston we have one near the North End. By going to these types of places you can see a lot of various flowers that are available and what colors you can get them in. If you don't mind spending a little more money you could see if there are flowers that are not local to your area that could be shipped in for you to use. But I would suggest going to a wholesaler and seeing what is out there. You could also go to the library and ask a librarian for some help finding some books about flowers that would be in season when you are planning your wedding that would have good pictures in it too. That may help also. Hope this helps.

I am getting married on Aug 21 this year and Sam's club has ordered all of my flowers. I have purple roses coming in and the one I saw a week ago opened. For my bouquet I am using white roses, and went to Walmart for purple (lavendar) accents. I also bought the accents in white as the bridesmaids bouquets are the purple roses. For the tables we ordered white and purple stock. It's really pretty and very cheap. You can also use statice, its available in white and all shades of purple. It dries well, but is very fragile, the buds can pop out. But I used the dried buds for decorations with a glue gun as well.
Good Luck to you!
